- Transit Center at Manas (formerly Manas Air Base and unofficially Ganci Air Base) is a former U.S. military installation at Manas International Airport, near Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. It was primarily operated by the U.S. Air Force. The primary unit at the base was the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing. On 3 June 2014 American troops vacated the base and it was handed over back to the Kyrgyzstan military. The base was opened in December 2001 to support U.S. military operations in the War in Afghanistan. The base was a transit point for U.S. military personnel coming from and going to Afghanistan. Recreation facilities included internet cafes, wireless internet, pool tables, free video games, and telephone lines via the DSN that allowed coalition forces to call their homes at little or no cost. The base had a large dining facility, a gymnasium, and a chapel. There was also a library where books and magazines were available for active duty airmen. It also hosted forces from several other International Security Assistance Force member states. Several events, such as the shooting of a local civilian and rumors of fuel dumping, had led to strained relations with some of the local population. Powers such as Russia and China had been pushing for the closure of the base since 2005. In February 2009, the Kyrgyz Parliament voted to close the base after the two governments failed to agree on a higher rent for the property. American and Kyrgyz officials continued negotiations after the announcement, and on 23 June a tentative agreement was reached. Under the new arrangement, the United States will pay $200 million, three times the previous rent, for continued use of the facilities. Before the handover to the Kyrgyz military, Kyrgyz forces handled security in the areas surrounding the facility, while American forces provided security for the facility, and the site was then called a "transit center" instead of an "air base". All U.S. forces vacated the base in early June 2014, at which time control of the base was handed over to Kyrgyz authorities. The U.S. lease officially expired in July 2014. (en)

Era inicialmente operado pela Força Aérea dos Estados Unidos. A principal unidade dentro da base era a . No dia 3 de Junho de 2014, as forças armadas norte-americanas saíram da base e entregaram as instalações de volta às . A base abriu as suas portas às forças norte-americanas em Dezembro de 2001, para apoiar as operações na Guerra do Afeganistão e na Guerra do Iraque. Dentro da base operavam também diversas forças armadas de vários países coligados com os EUA, e ainda funcionava como ponto de ligação entre as tropas que chegavam ao cenário de guerra e para aqueles que voltavam para casa. As instalações estavam dotadas de uma série de infraestruturas de lazer para distrair os militares, como internet wireless, cafés com mesas de bilhar, bibliotecas, cinema, vídeo-jogos, telefones, ginásio, e ainda uma capela. Vários eventos, como a ocorrência do alvejamento de um civil local e rumores de descarga de combustíveis e outros dejectos, fizeram com que o ambiente entre os militares e a comunidade local começasse a deteriorar-se. Potências como a Rússia e a China iniciaram, a partir de 2005, uma campanha de pressão para o encerramento da base. Em Fevereiro de 2009, o votou no encerramento da base depois de os dois governos anteriores terem falhado na tentativa de obrigar as forças militares a pagarem uma renda maior pela ocupação do espaço. Oficiais do Quirguistão e dos EUA continuaram a negociar mesmo após a decisão do parlamento, e a 23 de Junho chegaram a um acordo. Sob os novos termos, os EUA passariam a pagar 200 milhões de dólares (o triplo da renda original) para continuar a usar as instalações. Antes de passar a base para as mãos das forças armadas do quirguistão, estas mesmas forças estavam responsáveis pela segurança à volta da base, enquanto as forças norte-americanas ficavam responsáveis pela segurança dentro da instalação. Todas as forças norte-americanas abandonaram a base em Junho de 2014, momento em que a transferência da unidade foi efectuada para as mãos das forças do Quirguistão. Спочатку була названа на честь керівника нью-йоркської пожежної служби Пітера Ґансі, який загинув під час проведення рятувальних операцій після терористичної атаки 11 вересня 2001 у Всесвітньому торговельному центрі. Згодом керівництво збройних сил США перейменувало авіабазу «Ґансі» в авіабазу «Манас», тому що згідно з американським законодавством військові бази за межами США не можуть бути названі на честь американських громадян. С июля 2014 года авиабаза закрыта, территория и инфраструктура переданы Национальной гвардии Кыргызстана. Авиабаза использовалась с декабря 2001 года силами антитеррористической коалиции в соответствии с межправительственными соглашениями. Первоначально была названа в честь руководителя нью-йоркской пожарной службы Питера Ганси, погибшего во время проведения спасательных операций после террористической атаки 11 сентября 2001 года во Всемирном торговом центре. Впоследствии она была переименована в авиабазу «Манас», так как по правилам ВВС США военные базы за пределами США не могут быть названы в честь американских граждан.
