- Canzone del Piave (deutsch Lied vom Piave; auch La leggenda del Piave) ist ein patriotisches Lied aus Italien, das 1918 von Ermete Giovanni Gaeta (1884–1961) unter dem Pseudonym nach der zweiten Schlacht am Piave geschrieben und komponiert wurde. Das Lied erzählt kurz die Geschichte der italienischen Front im Ersten Weltkrieg, von dem Marsch der italienischen Armee von Venetien zur Frontlinie über die italienische Niederlage in der zwölften Isonzoschlacht und dem Widerstand am Piave bis zu dem italienischen Sieg in der Schlacht von Vittorio Veneto, die zum Zerfall Österreich-Ungarns führte. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg ersetzte das Lied nach dem Waffenstillstand von Cassibile die Marcia Reale als Nationalhymne Italiens, da man sich von dem Königshaus distanzieren wollte, das in der öffentlichen Meinung entscheidend zum Aufstieg von Benito Mussolini beigetragen hatte. Nach der Befreiung Roms durch die Alliierten 1944 wurde die Marcia Reale wieder als Nationalhymne eingesetzt. 1946, mit der Abschaffung der Monarchie und der Ausrufung der Republik, wurde Il Canto degli Italiani zur neuen Hymne Italiens erhoben. Mario after the Battle of the Piave River in June 1918. In September 1943 the future king of Italy Umberto II chose it as the new national anthem replacing the "Marcia Reale". It remained the official anthem of Italy until June 1944, when Rome was liberated and the government and the King returned to the capital, the "Marcia Reale" was in fact reintroduced as a national anthem and remained both after the appointment of Crown Prince Umberto of Savoy as Lieutenant General of the Realm and after his elevation to King. After the 1946 Italian institutional referendum, the newly established Italian Republic selected "Il Canto degli Italiani" in its stead. Today, the song is popular in Italy and played by a military band on National Unity and Armed Forces Day (November 4). (en)

- La leggenda del Piave, conosciuta anche come La canzone del Piave, Il Piave mormorava o semplicemente Il Piave, è una delle più celebri canzoni patriottiche italiane. Il brano fu composto nel giugno 1918 dal maestro napoletano Ermete Giovanni Gaeta (noto con lo pseudonimo di E. A. Mario). Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, dopo l'armistizio dell'8 settembre 1943, il governo italiano l'adottò provvisoriamente come inno nazionale, poiché si pensò fosse giusto sostituire la Marcia Reale con un canto che ricordasse la vittoria dell'Italia nel primo conflitto mondiale. La monarchia italiana era infatti stata messa in discussione per aver consentito l'instaurarsi della dittatura fascista. La leggenda del Piave ebbe la funzione di inno nazionale italiano fino al 1944, quando fu reintrodotta la Marcia Reale dopo il ritorno di re e governo nella Capitale liberata. Fu ripristinata in via provvisoria in vista del referendum istituzionale del 1946, finché il 12 ottobre dello stesso anno le fu preferito l'inno di Mameli. (it)
