  • The 2016 United States Senate election in Georgia was held November 8, 2016, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of Georgia, concurrently with the 2016 U.S. presidential election, as well as other elections to the United States Senate in other states and elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. The primary election for the Republican and Democratic parties took place on May 24, 2016. Incumbent Republican Senator Johnny Isakson won re-election to a third term in office by a wide margin. Isakson resigned from the Senate on December 31, 2019, due to health issues. As of 2022, this remains the last time that a Republican has won a Senate election in Georgia, as well as the last time that suburban Gwinnett and Henry counties have voted for a Republican in a statewide election. It also remains the last time that any statewide candidate has won an election in Georgia by double-digits. (en)
