- Haystack Rock ist ein 72 m hoher Monolith an der Küste Oregons im Nordwesten der USA. Der Haystack Rock bekam seinen Namen auf Grund der Ähnlichkeit zu einem Heuhaufen und zählt zu den größten Küstenmonolithen der Erde. Der Haystack Rock liegt am südlichen Ende von Cannon Beach und gehört zum Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site; während Niedrigwasser kann man ihn zu Fuß erreichen. Cannon Beach liegt etwa 130 km (80 mi) nordwestlich von Portland, der größten Stadt Oregons. Cannon Beach und der Haystack Rock zählen zu den beliebtesten Ausflugszielen in Oregon und liegen verkehrsgünstig am U.S. Highway 101. Der von vielen Seevögeln und Fischen als Brut- und Nistplatz genutzte Haystack Rock steht unter Naturschutz und besteht hauptsächlich aus Basalt und Lavagestein. The Haystack Rock tide pools are home to many intertidal animals, including starfish, sea anemone, crabs, chitons, limpets, and sea slugs. Site touristique populaire du Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site, ce monolithe est accessible à pied à marée basse. Ses cavités abritent des organismes marins variés, piégés à marée basse dans de nombreuses mares résiduelles : étoiles, anémones et limaces de mer, crabes, chitons, patelles et toutes sortes d'autres coquillages. Viene dai locali considerata la terza più alta struttura rocciosa di piano mesolitorale (la zona di litorale soggetta a grandi variazioni del livello della marea), ma non vi sono referenze ufficiali al riguardo. Il monolito è una popolare attrazione turistica, facilmente raggiungibile a piedi dalla spiaggia nei periodi di bassa marea. Nelle pozze di marea vivono numerose specie animali di ambiente intertidale, come stelle marine, anemoni di mare, granchi, chitoni, patelle e lumache di mare.
