Its authorship is anonymous, but it is believed to have been written by Alfred de Musset and the lesbian eponymous heroine a portrait of his lover, George Sand. It became a bestseller among nineteenth century erotic literature. The novel was illustrated with unsigned lithographs whose authorship remains unknown. L'eroina lesbica protagonista sarebbe basata su un ritratto di George Sand. Il romanzo è stato illustrato con litografie firmate il cui autore rimane sconosciuto: sono stati attribuite ad Achille Devéria e , tra gli altri; in seguito sarebbe stato illustrato anche da Édouard-Henri Avril. Edith Wharton aveva scritto un lavoro rimasto poi inedito basato su quest'opera. Il libro viene citato da Pierre Louÿs nel suo Piccolo galateo erotico per fanciulle. (it)
