- Die Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company war eine Werft in den Vereinigten Staaten. Sie gehörte zum Konzern US Steel und befand sich in Kearny, New Jersey, kurz vor der Einmündung des Hackensack River in die . Die Werft wurde 1917 gegründet, als US Steel hochseetaugliche Schiffe für den Transport der Stahlerzeugnisse benötigte. Während der letzten Monate des Ersten Weltkriegs wurden noch einige Kriegsschiffe für die United States Navy gebaut, anschließend konzentrierte die Werft sich hauptsächlich auf die Konstruktion von Frachtschiffen. Die Werft entwickelte sich zu einem großen Arbeitgeber in der Region. 1940 waren 6000 Arbeiter dort beschäftigt. 1930 begann die Werft wieder mit dem Bau von Kriegsschiffen für die US-Marine. Bis zur Schließung der Werft 1949 wurden 79 Zerstörer, 3 Kreuzer und etliche Fracht- und Tankschiffe fertiggestellt. Auf dem ehemaligen Werftgelände entstand ein Industriegebiet, an den Schiffbau erinnern heute noch mehrere Dockbecken sowie ein Kran. (de)
- The Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company was a United States shipyard, active from 1917 to 1948. It was founded during World War I to build ships for the United States Shipping Board. During World War II, it built ships as part of the U.S. Government's Emergency Shipbuilding program. Operated by a subsidiary of the United States Steel Corporation, the shipyard was located at Kearny Point where the mouth of the Hackensack River meets Newark Bay in the Port of New York and New Jersey. The shipyard site is now part of River Terminal, a massive distribution facility that is partially a foreign trade zone. Federal built numerous destroyers, destroyer escorts and a handful of light cruisers as well as merchant ships during and between the wars. Around 570 vessels were contracted for construction by Federal SB&DD Company with about 100 not delivered fully completed due to the end of the World War II. Federal also had a yard at Port Newark during World War II that built destroyers and landing craft. (en)
