- L'Església d'Alexandria o Església d'Egipte va ser una de les primeres Esglésies cristianes i un component de la Pentarquia. Segons la tradició, va ser fundada per l'evangelista Marc. Ha tingut diversos cismes al llarg de la seva història, de manera que avui en dia moltes esglésies pertanyents a diferents comunions, en són les hereves:

- The Church of Alexandria in Egypt is the Christian Church headed by the Patriarch of Alexandria. It is one of the original Apostolic Sees of Christianity, alongside Rome, Antioch, Constantinople and Jerusalem. Tradition holds that the Church of Alexandria was founded by Saint Mark the Evangelist circa 49 AD and claims jurisdiction over all Christians on the African continent. Today, three churches claim to be direct heirs of the original Church of Alexandria:
* The Coptic Orthodox Church, an Oriental Orthodox church
* The Greek Orthodox Church of Alexandria, part of the wider Eastern Orthodox Church
* The Coptic Catholic Church, one of 23 Eastern Catholic churches who are in full communion with the Catholic Church led by the Bishop of Rome Formerly, also the Latin Patriarchate of Alexandria did so. (en)

Ela é uma das quatro sedes apostólicas do cristianismo primitivo, juntamente com Roma, Antioquia e Jerusalém (Constantinopla foi adicionada posteriormente como a quinta). Tradicionalmente, acredita-se que tenha sido fundada por São Marcos por volta de 42 d.C. e ela alega jurisdição sobre todos os cristãos do continente africano. Hoje, três igrejas alegam ser descendentes diretas da Igreja original de Alexandria:
* A Igreja Ortodoxa Copta de Alexandria, uma igreja ortodoxa oriental.
* A Igreja Ortodoxa Grega de Alexandria, uma igreja ortodoxa (calcedoniana).
* A Igreja Católica Copta, uma igreja católica oriental em comunhão completa com a Igreja Católica Apostólica Romana.
