- The CNRS Silver Medal is a scientific award given every year to about fifteen researchers by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). It is awarded to a researcher for "the originality, quality and importance of their work, recognised on a national and international level". It is part of the "CNRS Talents" medals, along with the CNRS gold medal, which rewards a whole scientific career, the CNRS bronze medal, which rewards young researchers, the Innovation medal, which honours remarkable work in the technological, therapeutic, economic or societal fields, and the CNRS Crystal medal, which rewards research support staff. Elle distingue un chercheur pour « l'originalité, la qualité et l'importance de ses travaux, reconnus sur le plan national et international ». Depuis 2008, le CNRS a décidé d'augmenter la visibilité des femmes scientifiques et applique un principe de parité pour l'attribution des médailles de bronze et d'argent[réf. nécessaire]. Elle fait partie des médailles « Talents CNRS » avec la médaille d'or qui récompense l'ensemble d'une carrière scientifique, la médaille de bronze qui récompense les jeunes chercheurs, la médaille de l'innovation qui honore les travaux remarquables sur le plan technologique, thérapeutique, économique ou sociétal, et la médaille de cristal qui récompense les personnels d'appui à la recherche.
