- CCID (chip card interface device) protocol is a USB protocol that allows a smartcard to be connected to a computer via a card reader using a standard USB interface, without the need for each manufacturer of smartcards to provide its own reader or protocol. This allows the smartcard to be used as a security token for authentication and data encryption, such as that used in BitLocker. Chip card interface devices come in a variety of forms. The smallest CCID form is a standard USB dongle and may contain a SIM card or Secure Digital card inside the USB dongle. Another popular interface is a USB smart card reader keyboard, which in addition to being a standard USB keyboard, has an built-in slot for accepting a smartcard. However, not all CCID compliant devices accept removable smartcards, for example, select Yubikey hardware authentication devices support CCID, where they play the role of both the card reader and the smartcard itself. - Das Protokoll CCID, für englisch Chip Card Interface Device, ist ein Kommunikationsprotokoll für die Anbindung von Chipkartenleser über den Universal Serial Bus (USB) an ein Computersystem. Die Spezifikation wird vom USB Implementers Forum herausgegeben und erlaubt eine einheitliche Schnittstelle zwischen unterschiedlichen Herstellern von Chipkartensystemen und Herstellern von Software zur Kommunikation mit Chipkarten wie beispielsweise SIM-Karten. Neben Chipkartenlesegeräten werden von dem Standard auch die Kommunikation via USB-Schnittstelle mit CCID-konformen Security-Token unterstützt. Die CCID-Nachrichten werden in Datenblöcken übertragen. Jeder Datenblock, welcher vom Computersystem initiiert wird, umfasst zumindest einen 10 Byte langen Datenkopf, welcher unter anderem ein Kommando an das Chipkartenlesegerät beinhaltet, gefolgt von optionalen und individuellen Datenfeldern. In der Grundform sind 14 Basiskommandos in CCID festgelegt, mit welchen unter anderem Statusinformationen abgefragt und Steuerkommandos an die Chipkarte übertragen werden können. Auf Rechnersystemen wie Linux stehen freie CCID-Implementierungen zur Verfügung und werden in vielen Distributionen wie Debian mit angeboten. Unter Microsoft Windows wird CCID seit Windows 2000 unterstützt. Anbieter von CCID-konformen Chipkartenlesegeräten sind unter anderem die Firmen Giesecke+Devrient, Gemalto (Safenet) und Verisign. Esto permite que se puede utilizar la smartcard como token de seguridad para autentificación y encriptación de datos, como los utilizados en BitLocker. Los dispositivos de interfaz de tarjeta de chip vienen en variedad de formas. La forma más pequeña de CCID es un dongle (adaptador) USB y puede contener una tarjeta SIM o tarjeta Secure Digital dentro del adaptador USB.
