- Buttercrambe ist ein kleines Dorf im Distrikt Ryedale, North Yorkshire, England. Das Dorf liegt etwa 13 Kilometer nordöstlich von York an der Grenze zu East Riding of Yorkshire. Nach der Zählung im Jahre 2001 hat das Dort etwa 100 Einwohner. Das Zentrum des Dorfes bilden Aldby Hall und die Kirche St. John the Evangelist. Westlich von Buttercrambe befinden sich die Überreste eines kurzzeitig bestehenden und schnell errichteten römischen Lagers. Es stammt vermutlich aus der Zeit um 51 n.Ch. In Dorfnähe gibt es mit Buttercrambe Castle außerdem eine abgegangene Burg. Es handelte sich möglicherweise um eine mittelalterliche Motte aus dem Jahr 1201. Die Vorburg wurde allerdings so weitgehend umgestaltet, dass eine korrekte Interpretation schwierig ist. Um 1633 diente die Vorburg als Garten. (de)
- Buttercrambe is a small village in the Buttercrambe with Bossall civil parish, in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) to the north-east of York and on the border with the East Riding of Yorkshire. It, with Bossall parish had a recorded population of about 100 in the 2001 Census. Aldby Hall and the Church of St John the Evangelist are at the centre of the village. To the west of Buttercrambe, on high ground, are the remains of a Roman Temporary Camp: a square enclosure, ditched and banked, constructed quickly by an army on manoeuvres in enemy territory and used either overnight or for a short period of time, and demolished upon abandonment of the site. The camp was constructed probably 20 years before the establishment of nearby Eboracum, Roman York, in 71 AD. (en)
