- Die Bauzi sind ein Volk mit etwa 1500 Stammesmitgliedern, das im nord-zentralen indonesischen Neuguinea lebt. Ihr Siedlungsgebiet liegt am unteren Verlauf des Mamberamo-Flusses. Sie werden von einer Vielzahl weiterer zu unterscheidender Ethnien umgeben, wie den Nisa, Bagusa, Trimuris, Kauwera, Burmeso, Erital, Obukultai, Biritai und anderen. In vergangenen Tagen hatten die Bauzi eine animistische Lokalreligion. Heute sollen sie zu 65 % christianisiert sein. Die meisten Stammesangehörigen gehen der traditionellen Kriegskunst heute nicht mehr nach. Im Jahr 1985 sorgten die Bauzi für Aufsehen, als sie auf das – erst 1990 einer erweiterten Öffentlichkeit bekannt gewordene – Volk der Kirikiri-sprachigen Faia übergriffen und nahezu alle erwachsenen Stammesangehörigen töteten, sowie deren übrig gebliebenen Kinder mitnahmen und selbst erzogen. - The Bauzi or Baudi tribe consists of a group of 2,000 people living in the north-central part of the Indonesian province of Papua (formerly Irian Jaya). The Bauzi area consists of much of the west side of lower Mamberamo River area in northern Papua. The Bauzi people lived on hunting and gathering in the jungle. While the Bauzi people were historically an animistic people group, they are now 65% Christian. For the most part, tribal warfare is no longer a large part of Bauzi culture and all Bauzi people speak the same language. In recent years, linguists have been studying the language and translating various literature, including the Bible, into the Bauzi language. (en)
- Suku Bauzi, disebut juga dengan Baudi, Bauri atau Bauji, merupakan satu dari sekitar 260-an suku asli yang kini mendiami Tanah Papua. Oleh lembaga misi dan bahasa Amerika Serikat bernama Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL), suku ini dimasukan dalam daftar 14 suku paling terasing. Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Papua pun tak ketinggalan memasukan suku Bauzi kedalam daftar 20-an suku terasing yang telah teridentifikasi. Bagaimana tidak, luasnya hutan belantara, pegunungan, lembah, rawa hingga sungai-sungai besar yang berkelok-kelok di sekitar kawasan Mamberamo telah membuat suku ini nyaris tak bersentuhan langsung dengan peradaban modern.
