- Die American Society of Overseas Research (kurz: ASOR; bis 1921 The American School of Oriental Study and Research in Palestine, von 1921 bis 2021 American Schools of Oriental Research) ist eine amerikanische Non-Profit-Organisation mit Sitz in Boston, die seit ihrer Gründung 1900 die Erforschung des Alten Orients fördert und unterstützt. Sie wurde unter Führung des Archaeological Institute of America, der Society of Biblical Literature und der American Oriental Society ins Leben gerufen, zu ihren Gründungsmitgliedern gehörten die Harvard University, Princeton University, Yale University, Columbia University, Boston University, Johns Hopkins University sowie das , in Philadelphia, das New Yorker Union Theological Seminary sowie das Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati. Die Vereinigung unterhielt seit 1900 unter dem Namen American School of Oriental Research ein wissenschaftliches Institut in Jerusalem, seit 1970 W. F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research (AIAR). 1925 wurde für dieses ein Neubau errichtet. Weitere zugehörige Forschungsinstitute sind das (bis 2020 American Center of Oriental Research) in Amman (ACOR) und das Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute (CAARI) in Nikosia. Heute hat die ASOR 1315 Privatmitglieder, 95 institutionelle Mitglieder und drei Forschungsinstitute als kooperierende Mitglieder. Sie gibt die Zeitschriften Bulletin of the American Society of Overseas Research (BASOR), Journal of Cuneiform Studies (JCS) und (NEA) sowie die Schriftenreihen (AASOR) und (ASOR-ARS) heraus. Zudem veranstaltet sie jährlich eine Konferenz. Seit Januar 2020 ist die Archäologin Präsidentin der ASOR. - The American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR), founded in 1900 as the American School of Oriental Study and Research in Palestine, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Alexandria, Virginia which supports the research and teaching of the history and cultures of the Near East and Middle Eastern countries. ASOR supports scholarship, research, exploration, and archeological fieldwork and offers avenues of disseminating this research through their publications. ASOR also provides support for undergraduates and graduates in institutions of higher education around the world pursuing studies of the history and cultures of the Near and Middle East. As of January 2020, Sharon Herbert, is the president of ASOR. Her predecessor, Susan Ackerman served as President from 2014-2019. ASOR collaborates with the following independent overseas institutes:
* Albright Institute of Archaeological Research, Jerusalem – former directors of which include Millar Burrows who was instrumental in the first publications of the Dead Sea scrolls.
* Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute, Nicosia.
* American Center of Research, Amman. The overseas institutes support scholars working in the Middle East that focus on Near Eastern Archaeology, Semitic languages, history, Biblical studies, among a variety of other fields. The institutes are also members of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers. (en)

- L'American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR) è un'organizzazione no-profit apolitica ed aconfessionale statunitense fondata nell'anno 1900, che ha come scopo di incoraggiare e favorire studi e ricerche sui popoli e le culture del Vicino Oriente. Tiene annualmente una conferenza in Nord America, normalmente la seconda o terza settimana di novembre, e pubblica due riviste scientifiche, il Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research (BASOR) e il Journal of Cuneiform Studies (dal 1947). Pubblica inoltre dal 1938 un periodico a carattere maggiormente divulgativo, il Near Eastern Archaeology Magazine (fino al 1998 con il titolo The Biblical Archaeologist). Dell'organizzazione fanno parte tre istituti esteri, che favoriscono gli studi sull', sulle lingue semitiche e sull'archeologia biblica:
* Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute (CAARI), con sede a Nicosia (Cipro);
