- En l'àmbit de l'aviació comercial es coneix com a pont aeri una línia regular entre dos punts que tenen una elevada freqüència de vols i fins i tot un horari determinat per la demanda. Com a exemple a l'Estat Espanyol, el pont aeri Barcelona - Madrid va arribar a ser fins al 2008 la ruta aèria regular més transitada del món. És també un tipus d'operació militar en la que a una àrea ubicada en territori hostil o amenaçat és assegurada, permetent l'aterratge de noves tropes o material bèl·lic, proporcionant un espai de manobra per a la consecució de les subsegüents operacions projectades. Normalment la zona involucrada, és el resultat d'una invasió per part de les tropes aerotrasportades durant la fase d'assalt aeri. Pot també ser utilitzada com a punt de reaprovisionament de combustible per a operacions ràpides o menys permanents. (ca)
- Letecký most je označení pro nouzové použití letecké dopravy jako náhrady dočasně nedostupného nebo nedostatečného jiného dopravního spojení. Uplatnění nachází v období geopolitických či válečných krizí, blokády a v případě katastrof jako je zemětřesení. Letecký most je obvykle tvořen kyvadlovou dopravou většího množství nákladních letadel či vrtulníků, která na letiště v cílové destinaci dopravuje materiál, který není možné dopravit pozemní (železniční, automobilovou) ani námořní cestou. Dopravovány jsou potraviny, humanitární pomoc a dalšími zboží dle potřeby, např. palivo. Účelem leteckého mostu může také být evakuace lidí z místa ohrožení. Historické případy použití leteckého mostu:
* evakuace lidí z Kábulu během občanské války britským letectvem na přelomu let 1928–1929
* The Hump – přes Himálaje v roce 1942, kterým se zásobovala Čína válčící proti Japoncům za druhé světové válce
* Děmjanský kotel, bitva u Stalingradu, Tamaňský poloostrov – použití německých leteckých mostů na Východní frontě za druhé světové války
* Berlínská blokáda Sovětským svazem, rozsáhlé zásobování Západního Berlína v letech 1948–1949
* – evakuace lidí ze Saigonu za války ve Vietnamu v roce 1975

- An airbridge is the route and means of delivering material from one place to another by an airlift. An airbridge is the means by which an airhead is kept supplied by flying over enemy held territory. An airlift over an airbridge can also be used when the most convenient means of transport is by air, or as an additional supplement to other forms of transport. During the Second World War, the Germans used air bridges on three major occasions: the Demyansk Pocket, the Battle of Stalingrad and the Kuban bridgehead. As Demyansk turned into a German victory with the success of the bridge, Hermann Göring convinced Hitler a similar method could be used to supply the Sixth Army at Stalingrad. However, the Luftwaffe was never able to send in the necessary 800 tons of supplies per day. The Kuban Airlift from February–March 1943 was much more successful as the German air units in the Taman peninsula had access to established airfields with good supply and maintenance facilities, the weather was more favorable and Soviet opposition was much weaker than at Stalingrad. In February 1943, the Germans evacuated 50,000 men by air from the northwestern Caucasus to the Crimea and Ukraine. German units within the Kuban bridgehead received by air a daily ration of 500 tons of ammunition, food, fuel and other supplies, which would have been enough to keep 6th Army in Stalingrad operational. Some 2,000 men were airlifted every day from the Kuban bridgehead. At maximum effort, the Caucasus airlift brought in 700 tons of supplies and evacuated 5,000 men on a daily basis. Two of the largest airbridges in history were: The Hump, (the name given by Allied pilots in the Second World War to the eastern end of the Himalayan Mountains over which they flew from India to China to resupply the Chinese Government forces of Chiang Kai-shek) and the US XX Bomber Command (during Operation Matterhorn); and the Berlin Airlift, to overcome the Berlin Blockade from 24 June 1948 through to 11 May 1949. Anche se si può trattare di un atto ordinario come spostare delle merci da un aeroporto ad un altro, il termine viene più comunemente associato ad eventi straordinari, come il trasporto di soccorsi e generi di prima necessità in zone colpite da catastrofi naturali, o il rapido dispiegamento di uomini e mezzi in un teatro di guerra. Cinque Short Type 184 furono usati in Mesopotamia, dove furono fatti volare dal fiume Tigri ad Ora e nell'aprile del 1916 furono usati per far arrivare rifornimenti alla guarnigione durante l'Assedio di Kut.Nel 1922, nell'ambito della Riconquista della Libia, dalla metà di febbraio alla metà di aprile avvenne il primo ponte aereo italiano a cura del Corpo Aeronautico per rifornire il presidio assediato del X Battaglione Àscari Eritrei di el-Azizia.Furono portati 213 soldati e 43 tonnellate di merci e vennero sgomberati 118 tra feriti ed ammalati fino alla riconquista della zona con 5 trimotori Caproni Ca.36 e qualche monomotore Ansaldo S.V.A.. Il caso più famoso di ponte aereo è probabilmente quello del Ponte aereo per Berlino. (it)

- Most powietrzny – termin z dziedziny wojskowości odnoszący się do transportu żołnierzy, zaopatrzenia i sprzętu drogą lotniczą, przy wykorzystaniu samolotów, śmigłowców lub szybowców z rejonu będącego pod kontrolą wojsk własnych, do innego takiego rejonu odciętego przez siły nieprzyjaciela. Mosty powietrzne dzielą się na stałe i okresowe, co jest związane ze zdolnością do osłony samolotów transportowych przez własne lotnictwo bojowe i okresem trwania sytuacji kryzysowej. W zależności od odległości mosty powietrzne dzieli się na strategiczne (gdy w grę wchodzą tysiące kilometrów), operacyjno-taktyczne (setki kilometrów) i taktyczne (od kilkudziesięciu do kilku kilometrów). Most strategiczny przerzucany jest w sytuacji prowadzenia operacji na odległym, często zamorskim, polu działań (patrz: wojna w Afganistanie, wojna wietnamska, wojna koreańska). Most operacyjno-taktyczny ma miejsce, gdy istnieje konieczność dostarczenia zaopatrzenia lub zabrania rannych na średnich dystansach (patrz: blokada Berlina, bitwa stalingradzka), zaś most taktyczny ma zastosowanie w sytuacji konieczności dostarczenia uzupełnień i zaopatrzenia, gdy wojska własne operują w trudnym, bądź penetrowanym przez nieprzyjaciela terenie (patrz: bitwa pod Điện Biên Phủ, zrzuty zaopatrzenia do bazy Khe Sanh w czasie wojny wietnamskiej). W powietrznych mostach strategicznych wykorzystuje się samoloty o maksymalnym udźwigu, zasięgu i zdolne do tankowania w locie (takie jak Lockheed C-5 Galaxy, Lockheed C-130 Hercules, An-124 Rusłan czy Airbus A400M), w operacyjno-taktycznych samoloty o średnim udźwigu (np. CASA C-295 i cięższe typy śmigłowców), a w taktycznych samoloty i śmigłowce lekkie. (pl)

Uma ponte aérea é um meio que vem ajudar em caso de extrema necessidade quando é impossível a ligação por meios terrestres ou marítimos, por diversas razões ou porque é mesmo o melhor meio de transporte entre especificas rotas ou devido a sua carga, pode-se considerar também a ligação mais rápida entre pontos afastados. Uma ponte aérea pode ter várias razões de existir, desde a pontes aéreas para ajudar em relação a Logística militar, causas humanitárias entre outras. As pontes aéreas podem ter o inconveniente de serem de cargos financeiros elevados comparando com os outros meios de ligação. (pt)
