Είναι ένα από τα πρώτα καλτ άλμπουμ της ροκ. Κυκλοφόρησε το 1972 και ήταν μεγάλο πόνημα του Βαγγέλη Παπαθανασίου. Το άλμπουμ ήταν φαινομενικά μία προσαρμογή εδαφίων της Αποκάλυψης του Ιωάννη της Καινής Διαθήκης. Ήταν πολύ πειραματικό τόσο στους στίχους όσο και στη μουσική και περιλαμβάνει ένα παράξενο κομμάτι στο οποίο η ηθοποιός Ειρήνη Παππά τραγουδά μία μάντρα σε διάφορα στάδια υστερίας. (el)

Ostensibly an adaptation of Biblical passages from the Book of Revelation, it is the group's most critically acclaimed project. Due to internal tensions during the recording process and conflict with the record company, by the time it was released the band had already disbanded and its members had begun work on solo projects. Es uno de los discos de culto de la historia del rock sinfónico, y sigue siendo popular entre los aficionados de hoy, siendo asimismo el final de Aphrodite's Child como banda, y el primer vehículo que sirvió para catapultar el proyecto artístico de Vangelis Papathanassiou en solitario. - 666 est un double album du groupe rock progressif grec Aphrodite's Child sorti en 1972. C’est leur troisième et dernier puisque le groupe s'est séparé avant même sa parution. La musique est composée par Vangelis et les textes grecs sont de Yannis Tsarouchis, ceux en anglais sont de Costas Ferris. Cet album est l'adaptation musicale de l'Apocalypse de Saint-Jean, le titre faisant référence au nombre de la Bête (chapitre 13, verset 18). Les morceaux contenus sur cette œuvre sont assez différents les uns des autres, autant quant à leur durée qu'à leur style. Certaines pièces frisent le psychédélisme alors que d'autres sonnent hard rock. L'album fut censuré à sa sortie dans certains pays, entre autres pour ses références au satanisme. À l'intérieur de la pochette, on peut lire : « This work was recorded under the influence of “Sahlep” » (« Cet album a été enregistré sous l'influence du “Sahlep” »), phrase qui, elle aussi, sema la controverse ; le terme « Sahlep » désigne en fait une boisson inoffensive. La performance vocale d'Irène Papas sur Infinity (∞) est aussi à l'origine de la censure de l'album dans certains pays. L'actrice y interprète un orgasme féminin sur fond de percussions. Le saxophoniste Michel Ripoche fut aussi membre du groupe progressif français Zoo entre 1969 et 1972, il participa au saxophone ténor sur Babylon et Hic and Nunc. Les frictions entre les membres du groupe, déjà présentes avant la création de l'album, empirèrent au fur et à mesure que l'enregistrement avançait. Le groupe se disloque peu avant sa sortie, en 1972. Vangelis termina seul le mix final de l'album et fit le nécessaire pour le sortir, avant de se diriger vers une carrière solo. (fr)
