  • The 2022 season is the Miami Dolphins' 53rd in the National Football League (NFL), their 57th overall, the first under new head coach Mike McDaniel, and seventh under general manager Chris Grier. The Dolphins will attempt to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016, win the AFC East for the first time since 2008, and finish with 3 straight winning seasons for the first time since the 2001–2003 seasons. With an 8–3 record by week 12, the Dolphins had their best start since the 2001 season. For the first time since 2014, long-time wide receiver DeVante Parker was not on the roster, as he was traded to the New England Patriots on April 2, 2022. Parker was previously the longest tenured player on the roster, and his departure made cornerback Xavien Howard, who had been with the Dolphins since 2016, the team's new longest tenured player. The Dolphins franchise entered the season with a total of 496 wins (including both regular season and playoffs). With a Week 7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, they reached 500 total wins, becoming the fifth franchise from the American Football League to achieve that mark. That same night, which was the Dolphins' first Sunday Night game since 2017, the 50th anniversary of the 1972 undefeated Miami Dolphins team was honored during halftime, and the team wore both the throwback uniforms as well as 50th anniversary patches on their jerseys to commemorate the NFL's only perfect team since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
