- The 2014 NHL Winter Classic was an outdoor regular season National Hockey League (NHL) game, part of the Winter Classic series, played on January 1, 2014 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The visiting Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 3–2, in a shootout to move past the Red Wings in the Atlantic Division. The game was televised nationally in Canada on CBC and nationally in the United States on NBC. The game set an NHL attendance record of 105,491, surpassing the previous record set during the 2008 NHL Winter Classic. The game was originally planned to be played on January 1, 2013, as the 2013 NHL Winter Classic, but was postponed until the following year due to the 2012–13 NHL lockout. The 2014 Winter Classic was one of six outdoor games held during the 2013–14 NHL season, which included the new 2014 NHL Stadium Series of four games and the 2014 Heritage Classic. These six games served as the NHL's premiere showcase games for the season as there was no All Star Game due to the 2014 Winter Olympics. The event was the first Winter Classic to be held at a stadium dedicated solely to college football. It was also the first whose festivities were split between two locations, as the NHL Alumni Showdown and other side events were held on a second rink constructed at Comerica Park in downtown Detroit. Dabei wurde mit 105.491 Zuschauern ein neuer Rekord für eine Eishockeypartie aufgestellt. In Anlehnung an das bisherige Rekordspiel (The Big Chill at the Big House) bekam das NHL Winter Classic 2014 den Untertitel The Big House. Die Begegnung sollte ursprünglich bereits am 1. Januar 2013 stattfinden, wurde allerdings aufgrund des Lockouts der Saison 2012/13 um ein Jahr verschoben. (de)

Svoltasi il 1 gennaio 2014 al Michigan Stadium di Ann Arbor, in Michigan, la partita valevole per la regular season vide affrontarsi i Detroit Red Wings, padroni di casa, ed i Toronto Maple Leafs, questi ultimi alla loro prima partecipazione all'evento; i Red Wings infatti vinsero l'edizione del 2009 contro i Chicago Blackhawks. I Toronto Maple Leafs superarono i Detroit Red Wings con il punteggio di 3-2 agli shootout, e grazie a questo successo li scavalcarono in classifica nella Metropolitan Division. In origine la gara si sarebbe dovuta svolgere nel giorno di Capodanno del 2013, tuttavia la gara fu rimandata a causa del lockout che dimezzò la stagione 2012-2013. La partita fu la prima di sei gare disputate all'aperto nel corso della stagione regolare 2013-14, fra le quali quattro gare della NHL Stadium Series e la terza edizione dell'Heritage Classic. Le sei gare outdoor, trasmesse sui network nordamericani, servirono a riempire il vuoto lasciato dalla mancanza dell'All-Star Game a causa della concomitanza con i XXII Giochi olimpici invernali di Soči. - Зимняя классика НХЛ 2014 (англ. 2014 NHL Winter Classic) — матч регулярного чемпионата НХЛ под открытым небом который состоялся 1 января 2014 года между командами «Детройт Ред Уингз» и «Торонто Мейпл Лифс». Матч проходил в городе Анн-Арбор, штат Мичиган, на футбольном стадионе Мичиганского университета. Первоначально планировалось провести этот матч 1 января 2013 года в прошлом сезоне, однако из-за локаута он был отменен. На матче была предпринята попытка побить действующий рекорд посещаемости. Организаторами было объявлено что на игру продано 105 491 билет, однако данный рекорд не был зарегистрирован Книгой рекордов Гиннесса, так как не удалось установить точное количество пришедших зрителей. Мичиган Стэдиум или, как его ещё называют, «Большой дом» (англ. The Big House) является самым вместительным стадионом в Северной Америке и одним из самых вместительных в мире. Стадиону уже принадлежит мировой рекорд по вместимости на хоккейных матчах — 104 173 зрителя. Для «Ред Уингз» это была вторая Зимняя классика, а «Мейпл Лифс» участвовали в ней впервые.
