- Local elections were held in Romania on 1 June 2008, with a runoff for mayors on 15 June 2008. On 1 June elections were held for:
* all the villages, communes, cities, and municipal councils (Local Councils, Romanian: Consilii Locale), and the Sectors Local Councils of Bucharest (Romanian: Consilii Locale de Sector)
* the 41 County Councils (Romanian: Consilii Judeţene), and the Bucharest Municipal General Council (Romanian: Consiliul General Al Municipiului București).
* the 41 Presidents of the County Councils (Romanian: Preşedinţii Consiliilor Judeţene)
* all the mayors (Romanian: Primarii)
* of the villages, cities, and municipalities
* of the Sectors of Bucharest (Romanian: Primarii de Sector)
* The General Mayor of The Municipality of Bucharest (Romanian: Primarul General al Municipiului București) On 17 April 2008, the Social Democratic Party and the Conservative Party announced they would form a political alliance for these elections, the Alliance PSD+PC. For the first time the presidents of the County Councils were elected directly by the people, and not by later negotiations inside the County Council; other notable characteristics included a substantial number of Roma candidates standing, as well as some representatives of the Romanian Orthodox Church. Turnout was low, with fewer than half of the eligible voters turning out to vote; in most big cities, except for Constanţa (incumbent PSD member Radu Ştefan Mazăre won) and Cluj-Napoca (incumbent Democratic Liberal Party member Emil Boc won), the election was not decided in the first round; in Bucharest, PDL member Vasile Blaga and independent Sorin Oprescu (former member of the PSD) will meet in the run-off. Overall, PD-L got 28.37%, PSD got 28.04%, PNL got 18.66%, and UDMR got 5.43% of the cast votes. (en)

- Le elezioni locali in Romania del 2008 si sono tenute domenica 1 giugno, mentre i ballottaggi sono stati celebrati domenica 15 giugno. Il voto si è svolto secondo la legge nr. 67/2004, che prevedeva l'elezione dei sindaci su due turni. Nel caso in cui un candidato fosse riuscito al primo turno ad ottenere almeno il 50% + 1 dei voti validi, non sarebbe stato organizzato il ballottaggio. Per la prima volta nella storia della Romania postrivoluzionaria i presidenti dei consigli di distretto sono stati eletti direttamente dai cittadini su singolo turno a maggioranza semplice. I consiglieri locali e distrettuali sono stati eletti tramite scrutinio di lista su base proporzionale. Gli elettori sono stati chiamati alle urne per il rinnovo degli incarichi di:
* Consigli di distretto (Consilii Județene, CJ) per ognuno dei 41 distretti della Romania, nonché per il Consiglio Generale del Municipio di Bucarest (Consiliul General al Municipiului București, CGMB).
* Tutti i 41 presidenti dei consigli di distretto (Președinții consiliilor județene, PCJ).
* Consigli locali (Consilii locale, CL) di tutte le località con titolo di comune (comună), città (oraș) e municipio (municipiu), nonché per ognuno dei 6 settori di Bucarest.
* Tutti i sindaci (Primarii) di comuni, città, municipi e dei 6 settori di Bucarest
* Sindaco Generale del Municipio di Bucarest (Primarul General al Municipiului București, PMGB) In due località (Arcani (Gorj) e Poeni) si è resa necessaria l'organizzazione di un terzo turno, il 29 giugno, poiché entrambi i candidati al ballottaggio hanno ottenuto lo stesso numero di preferenze. Nelle località di Ștefăneștii de Jos e Sascut, l'Ufficio elettorale centrale ha ammesso le richieste di ripetizione del turno di ballottaggio, sempre il 29 giugno, a causa di gravi irregolarità commesse durante le operazioni di voto. - Wybory samorządowe w Rumunii odbyły się 1 czerwca 2008 roku. W wyborach w skali kraju zwyciężyła Partia Demokratyczno-Liberalna uzyskując 36,5% głosów. Frekwencja wyniosła 49,38%. 15 czerwca odbyła się druga tura. Wybierano w niej burmistrzów w tych miastach, w których żaden z kandydatów nie uzyskał w pierwszej turze bezwzględnej większości. Wyniki wyborów lokalnych są o tyle istotne, że mogą mieć wpływ na jesienne wybory parlamentarne, a koalicje zawarte na tym szczeblu mogą zostać odwzorowane w nowym parlamencie. (pl)
