- Yzerfontein ist eine Stadt in der Gemeinde Swartland, Distrikt West Coast, Provinz Westkap in Südafrika. 2011 hatte sie 1140 Einwohner. Die Stadt liegt an der Straße R27, 80 Kilometer nördlich von Kapstadt. Der Stadtname setzt sich zusammen aus den beiden Afrikaans-Worten Yzer (Eisen) und Fontein (Quelle). Die Stadt liegt im Winterregengebiet, das heißt, der jährliche Niederschlag von 400 mm fällt hauptsächlich in den Monaten April bis Oktober. Wie alle Orte an der südafrikanischen Westküste eignet sich das Meer vor Yzerfontein aufgrund der starken, stetigen Winde zum Surfen. Die Temperaturen im Winter liegen – bedingt durch den nahen Benguelastrom – deutlich unter 10 °C, es ist in der Regel aber frostfrei. Der lateinische Wahl- und Wappenspruch des Ortes lautet: Mare didat flores decorant (deutsch: „Das Meer ernährt und die Blumen schmücken“). Haupteinnahmequelle des Ortes ist der Fischfang, daneben in der Wildblumensaison (August bis Oktober) der Tourismus. (de)

The name in Afrikaans means "Iron Fountain".The town started out when the farm 'Yzerfontein' was bought by the Katz-family in the 1930s. Then they started dividing the farm into plots. The main sources of income are tourism (especially during the wildflower season from August to October), mining and fishing. Yzerfontein is known for its Sixteen Mile Beach, stretching north from the main beach of the town, to the West Coast National Park, which borders the town. Dassen Island, another nature reserve, is about 10 km offshore. Yzerfontein is the landing point for the ACE and WACS submarine communications cables. Outside of the town is the Darling Wind Farm. This is producing power and there are plans for expansion. The Yzerfontein salt pan is a 116 hectares (287 acres) coastal salt pan, just northeast of the town. It was formerly mined for salt, and is currently mined for gypsum. These days Yzerfontein is more modern. It has a new spa, coffee shop, pharmacy and many restaurants. De stad ligt naast het beroemde Weskus Nationale Park, en struisvogels, slangen, dassies en zelfs geiten zijn hier te vinden. Zeevogels en duikers voelen zich thuis in de stad en broeden hun jongen uit op Meeurots, een klein eiland in de baai, en Dasseneiland. Walvissen komen paren en kalven in de baai.
