- Yared Nuguse (born June 1, 1999) is an American middle-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 metres. He qualified for the 1500 at the 2020 Summer Olympics with his personal best time of 3:34.68 and by finishing third at the Olympic Trials but did not participate due to a quad injury. He competes collegiately for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Nuguse attended DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was a very successful high school runner prior to attending the University of Notre Dame. In 2019, Nuguse anchored the Fighting Irish to victory in the Distance Medley Relay at the 2019 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships before winning the 1500 meters at the 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. On May 13, 2021, Nuguse set the NCAA 1500 metres record in a time of 3:34.36, which also met the Olympic standard. At the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Nuguse finished second to Cole Hocker in a time of 3:35.60. On February 12, 2022, Nuguse set the NCAA indoor 3000 metres record in a time of 7:38.13 at the BU Valentine Invitational. Nuguse capped off his 2022 NCAA indoor season at the 2022 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, where he anchored Notre Dame's Distance Medley Relay team to a 2nd place finish.
