Créée en 1968, son siège est situé à Bristol, en Angleterre et son président est Jason Ferguson (depuis 2015). Malgré son investissement, Ferguson est épaulé, et même parfois éclipsé par son bras droit ; Barry Hearn, qui est chargé de signer des contrats pour parrainer les différentes compétitions de snooker. Dans le but de soutenir et d'approuver une place au snooker aux jeux olympiques, est fondée une association en lien avec la WPBSA ; la fédération mondiale de snooker. Malgré un combat, même pris en charge par le joueur Shaun Murphy, la candidature pour les jeux olympiques d'été de 2020 est refusée. It owns and publishes the official rules of the two sports and engages in promotional activities. The Professional Billiard Players Association (PBPA) was founded in 1946, and, after some years of inactivity, was revived in 1968 and renamed the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association in 1970. It owns a 26 per cent share of World Snooker, which organises the professional snooker ranking circuit events.
