- Wayne Gould (高樂德法官) (* 3. Juli 1945 in Hawera, Neuseeland) ist ein ehemaliger Richter, der für die Verbreitung des Sudokus in Europa und Amerika verantwortlich ist. Wayne Gould wurde am 3. Juli 1945 als Sohn eines Bankmanagers geboren. Er war 13 Jahre ein Rechtsanwalt in Matamata (Neuseeland), bevor er 1982 nach Hongkong zog. Im Jahre 1993 wurde Gould dort vorsitzender Bezirksrichter. Er ging unmittelbar nach der Übernahme Hongkongs durch China am 1. Juli 1997 in Pension. Während eines Japanaufenthaltes im gleichen Jahr entdeckte Gould in einer Buchhandlung in Tokio ein Sudokubuch. Obwohl er nicht japanisch sprach, war er fasziniert und beschloss, das Sudoku auch in Europa und Amerika zu verbreiten. Die nächsten sechs Jahre verbrachte er damit, ein Computerprogramm, genannt „Pappocom Sudoku“, zu entwickeln, das auf Knopfdruck neue Sudokus produziert. Im September 2004 veröffentlichte Gould sein erstes Sudoku in der Conway Daily Sun. Der Durchbruch gelang ihm nach der Veröffentlichung seiner Sudokus in der Times am 15. November 2004. Gould wurde durch den Verkauf von Sudokubüchern und seiner Software mehrfacher Millionär. Allein seine Bücher verkauften sich über 4 Millionen Mal (Stand 2006). Gould wurde 2006 in der Liste World's Most Influential People (Liste der 100 einflussreichsten Personen der Welt) des Time Magazine genannt. Gould ist verheiratet und hat zwei Kinder. - Wayne Gould (高樂德) (born 3 July 1945 in Hawera, New Zealand) is a retired Hong Kong judge, most recently known for helping to popularise sudoku puzzles in the United Kingdom, and thereafter in the United States. He pioneered the global success and popularity of the Sudoku puzzle outside Japan where it had been popular for many years. Gould worked as a judge in the criminal courts of Hong Kong. In 1997 he found a sudoku book in a bookstore in Tokyo. Gould then spent 6 years developing a computer program, known as Pappocom Sudoku, that could mass-produce puzzles for the global market. In November 2004 the London Times was convinced to publish the puzzles. His work led to the publication of sudoku puzzles in many UK newspapers. Part of his strategy in the U.S. market was offering newspapers a daily puzzle at no charge, unique to each paper, for publication accompanied by an offer of its solution via the Pappocom website. The website also offered those consulting it a low-cost program that generates and, if desired, assists in solving, unlimited Sudoku puzzles of a difficulty and style specified by the user. He is also editor of several paperback collections of the puzzles called Su Doku: The Utterly Addictive Number-placing Puzzle, published in 2005 by The Times Books (ISBN 0-00-720732-8, ISBN 0-00-721350-6, ISBN 0-00-721426-X).
