- Vliet is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located about 1 km southwest of the city of Oudewater, on the south bank of the Hollandsche IJssel. Vliet or Ratelsvliet was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1846, when it became part of Haastrecht. During that time, the area was part of the province of South Holland. According to the 19th-century historian A.J. van der Aa, there was no hamlet in the area in the middle of the 19th century. There were just eight houses, with a population of about 50. The area used to be a manor, also called Vliet or "Ratelesvliet", and contained a castle, Te Vliet. The castle was probably built between 1250 and 1300, and existed at least until 1515. In 1647, it was already a ruin, and nowadays just one wall still exists. (en)
- Vliet is een buurtschap behorende tot de gemeente Oudewater in de provincie Utrecht. Het ligt aan de Hollandsche IJssel ten oosten van het Zuid-Hollandse Haastrecht en ten westen van Oudewater aan de N228 richting Rozendaal. Voor 1812 was Vliet een zelfstandige heerlijkheid, in dat jaar werd het bij de gemeente Polsbroek gevoegd (provincie Utrecht), samen met nog een aantal andere dorpen (Cabauw, Vlist, Zevender, Hoenkoop en Polsbroek zelf). Op 19 september 1814 komen een aantal van deze dorpen, waaronder Vliet, in de provincie Zuid-Holland te liggen, waardoor de gemeente Polsbroek in twee provincies tegelijk ligt. Op 1 april 1817 werd Vliet een zelfstandige gemeente. In 1846 werd deze alsnog opgeheven en bij Haastrecht gevoegd. In 1970 wordt Vliet door Haastrecht afgestaan aan de gemeente Oudewater. Hierdoor komt Vliet weer in de provincie Utrecht te liggen. In Vliet bevindt zich de ruïne van het Huis te Vliet. (nl)
