- Le Vanch est une rivière de l'est du Tadjikistan. C'est un affluent du Piandj en rive droite, donc un sous-affluent de l'Amou Daria. Le Vanch coule dans le district de Vanch, au nord-ouest de la province autonome du Haut-Badakhchan. Il coule du nord-est vers le sud-ouest entre le chaînon Darvaz qui le sépare du bassin du Vakhch au nord, et le au sud, qui forment la limite avec le bassin du Yazgoulem. Il rejoint le Piandj à 38° 18′ N, 71° 20′ E. La vallée du Vanch est plus large et plus fertile que la plupart des autres vallées tributaires du Piandj. La ville de Vanch se trouve à une vingtaine de kilomètres en amont du confluent Vanch-Piandj. Dans son cours supérieur, près du village de Po-i-Mazar, la rivière, d'abord orientée depuis le sud vers le nord, tourne en direction du sud-ouest et reçoit à cet endroit les eaux de fonte du glacier dit "de la Société Géographique" non loin du pic de l'Indépendance (ancien pic de la Révolution - 6.974 m). Près de sa source, à quelques kilomètres à l'est se trouve le glacier Fedtchenko. Mais les eaux de fonte de ce glacier-là alimentent l'Obihingou, affluent du Vakhch. (fr)

- The Vanj (Tajik: Ванҷ, Russian: Ванч Vanch) is a river in east Tajikistan. It is a right tributary of the Panj in Vanj District, north-western Gorno-Badakhshan. The river is 103 kilometres (64 mi) long and has a basin area of 2,070 square kilometres (800 sq mi). It flows southwest between the Darvoz Range to the north and the Vanj Range to the south, joining the Panj on the border with Afghanistan. The Vanj valley is broader and more fertile than other valleys feeding the Panj. Vanj town is about 20 km upstream from the Panj. At the head of the valley, beyond the village of Po-i-Mazar, the river turns southeast (going upstream) and is fed by the Geographical Society Glacier near Independence Peak. Beyond the head of the valley are the Academy of Sciences Range and the Fedchenko Glacier. South, on the other side of the Vanj Range, is the valley of the Yazgulem. The Vanji language, formerly spoken in the valley, is extinct. (en)

Среднегодовой расход воды составляет около 50 м³/с; возможны катастрофические паводки (до 1000 м³/с), происходящие при прорыве подпрудного озера, образующегося в верховьях реки при резкой подвижке пульсирующего ледника Медвежьего, перекрывающего долину. На реке построена гидроэлектростанция. В районе долины реки до XX века был распространён ванчский язык, один из памирских языков. (ru)
