- Die Tristel-Formation ist eine kreidezeitliche stratigraphische Formation, die im Tauernfenster, Engadiner Fenster, Rechnitzer Fenster und vielen anderen Lokalitäten in den Ost- und Westalpen vorkommt. Sie ist Teil der Bündnerschiefer bzw. der penninischen Einheiten der Alpen. Abgelagert wurde die Tristel-Formation vom Unteraptium bis Oberbarremium. Sie besteht aus einer Abfolge von Kalken, Mergeln, und Tonsteinen. Aufgrund der starken Deformation ist die Mächtigkeit schwierig abzuschätzen, beträgt aber durchschnittlich zwischen 150 und 250 m. Die Ablagerung erfolgt in Form turbiditischer Schüttungen. Die Tristel-Formation nimmt eine niedrige Position innerhalb der Einheiten des Valais-Ozeans ein. Man kann sie aufgrund dessen mit der und der korrelieren. - The Tristel Formation is a stratigraphic formation of the northern-central Alps, deposited between the late Barremian and the early Aptian of the Early Cretaceous. It consists of thickly banked limestones, marls and shales. It is the lowest formation of the Bündnerschiefer and belongs to the . Outcrops can be found in the Engadin window, the Tauern window, the , and many localities of the Penninic realm of the eastern and western Alps. The type locality is the area around the Naafkopf (47°03′39″N 9°36′25″E / 47.060767°N 9.607067°E) in the border region of Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. The Tristel Formation can be correlated with the in Graubünden and the Couches de l’Aroley Formation in Savoie (France) and Valais (Switzerland). (en)
