Si s'utilitza contràriament a les instruccions del producte, pot causar símptomes d'enverinament incloent nerviosisme, ansietat, tremolor, convulsions, al·lèrgies de pell, esternuts, congestió nasal i irritació. És molt tòxic en medi aquàtic per a peixos i dàfnies. Sobretot en presència de nens, només s'ha d'utilitzar en espais ben ventilats. Používá se ve vnitřním prostředí proti mouchám, komárům, švábům a molům. Je to relativně těkavá látka a účinkuje kontaktním a inhalačním způsobem. Doporučená koncentrace je 0,02 - 0,04 % proti létajícímu hmyzu a 0,04 - 0,08 % proti lezoucímu hmyzu. Účinnost může být zvýšena kombinací s jinou účinnou látkou, například piperonylbutoxidem. (cs)

Laut Sicherheitsdatenblatt stellt das Einatmen praktisch kein Gefahrenpotenzial dar, der Stoff reizt jedoch Augen und Haut. Die Halbwertszeit in Boden und Umwelt beträgt wenige Tage. Transfluthrin, if used contrary to product instructions, may cause symptoms of poisoning including nervousness, anxiety, tremor, convulsions, skin allergies, sneezing, running nose and irritation. Treatment depends on symptoms. No specific antidotes are known, but antihistamines may help to control any allergies. In experiments, transfluthrin was shown to kill 85 percent of mosquitos within one hour of exposure at concentrations below 0.3 µg/m3 (which was the detection limit) in air. (The data suggests that transfluthrin is effective at these concentrations within much less than an hour of exposure.) Various household transfluthrin products such as vaporizers and mosquito coils may result in concentrations of 15 µg/m3 to 40 µg/m3. Ha formula molecolare C15H12Cl2F4O2 ed appartiene ai Piretroidi di Tipo I essendo priva di gruppo cianogeno. Diffonde lentamente a temperatura ambiente e possiede una elevata resistenza alla degradazione termolitica ( 5h a 200 °C ). La sua elevata soglia di termolabilità la rende ideale come composto base all'interno dei comuni diffusori elettrici contro le zanzare e le mosche, mentre in forma liquida (talvolta anche utilizzata tramite aerosolizzazione) si dimostra efficace contro scarafaggi e Blattella germanica. È una sostanza relativamente volatile e agisce per contatto e per inalazione, interferendo sul sistema nervoso centrale a livello della trasmissione assonale dell'impulso nervoso causando una stimolazione ripetuta di breve durata.Al momento non sono noti studi di settore che abbiano correlato l'esposizione alla Transflutrina con fenomeni mutagenici e/o cancerogenici. Nel 2005 uno studio di settore non ha escluso la cancerogenicità della Transflutrina sulle cellule mucosali umane. Uno studio del 2011 ha appurato che elevate dosi di Transflutrina somministrata per via orale possono indurre alterazioni citotossiche e successivo instaurarsi di processi oncogenici nelle cellule di rivestimento del tratto urinario di un gruppo di topi.
