- Thierry de Duve (né le 21 octobre 1944 à Saint-Trond) est un professeur belge de théorie de l'art moderne et de l'art contemporain et auteur d'ouvrages dans ce domaine. Il est critique d'art ainsi que commissaire d'expositions. Il a été professeur invité à l'Université Lille III, à la Sorbonne, au MIT et à l'Université Johns Hopkins ainsi que professeur invité distingué de la chaire Elliot and Roslyn Jaffe d'art contemporain au département d'histoire de l'art de l'Université de Pennsylvanie. Il a été fellow au « Center for the Advanced Study of the Visual Arts » (CASVA) à la National Gallery of Art à Washington, D.C. En 2010, il a enseigné l'histoire de l'art et l'esthétique à l'Université de Lille III. Pour lui, il n'y a pas de différence entre l'art moderne, post-moderne et contemporain : la même logique domine depuis le début. L'art n'a pas d'essence; c'est ce que nous appelons de ce nom. (fr)

He has been a visiting professor at the University of Lille III (France), the Sorbonne (France), MIT, and Johns Hopkins University, and was the Elliot and Roslyn Jaffe Distinguished Visiting Professor in Contemporary Art in Penn's History of Art Department. He was the 2015 Theorist in Residence for the CalArts MA in Aesthetics and Politics Program during the fall semester. In 2016, he was appointed Evelyn Kranes Kossak Professor and Distinguished Lecturer in the Department of Art and Art History at Hunter College, City University of New York. He has also been a fellow at the Center for the Advanced Study of the Visual Arts (CASVA) at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. He is the son of Christian de Duve, Nobel Prize winner for his discovery of lysosomes. (en)
