- La lluna i les fogueres (en italià La Luna e i Falò) és un llibre del poeta i novel·lista italià Cesare Pavese, traduït al català per Maria Aurèlia Capmany. L'obra fou escrita en italià l'any 1949. És considerada la millor novel·la de Pavese. La novel·la té lloc al petit poble de , al Piemont, regió del nord-oest d'Itàlia. El protagonista principal, conegut tan sols pel seu sobrenom, Anguila, retorna al seu poble natal als anys immediatament posteriors a la Segona Guerra Mundial. Havia marxat just abans de la guerra per raons polítiques i havia fet fortuna als Estats Units. Un cop retornat als seus orígens, retroba moltes de les mateixes olors i visions que conformaren la seva joventut, però també descobreix que el poble i els seus habitants han estat profundament canviats per la guerra i pel pas del temps. - Der Mond und die Feuer (italienischer Originaltitel: La luna e i falò) ist der letzte Roman Cesare Paveses, den er im Herbst 1949 in weniger als zwei Monaten niederschrieb, nachdem er den Sommer in Santo Stefano Belbo, dem Ort seiner Kindheit, verbracht hatte. Dort hatte er viele Gespräche mit seinem Freund Pinolo Scaglione geführt, über die Ereignisse in der kleinen Stadt und ihre Geschichte, insbesondere über die Resistenza in der dortigen Gegend, also über den Widerstand gegen die deutsche Besatzung und die italienischen Faschisten und das Schicksal der Bewohner. Alle diese Themen werden im Roman aufgenommen, auch Scaglione selbst ist in der Figur des Nuto wiederzufinden. Der Roman, der starke autobiographische Züge trägt, wurde im April 1950 veröffentlicht, nur einige Monate, bevor Pavese sich im August 1950 das Leben nahm. Er ist der letzten Geliebten Paveses gewidmet, der amerikanischen Schauspielerin Constance Dowling. Der Roman vereint alle wichtigen Themen und Motive seines gesamten Schaffens und gilt als das vollkommenste und reifste Werk des Dichters. (de)

- The Moon and the Bonfires is an English translation of the novel La Luna e i Falò, by the Italian poet and novelist Cesare Pavese. The book was written in Italian in 1949. It is considered Pavese's best novel. The first English language translation was undertaken by Louise Sinclair in 1952. A more recent translation by R. W. Flint, published in 2002, uses the arguably more correct translation of The Moon and the Bonfires, taking account of the use of the plural i Falò in the original Italian title. The novel is set in the small town of Santo Stefano Belbo, in Piedmont, north-west Italy. The protagonist, known only by his nickname of Anguilla (Eel), has returned to his home town in the years immediately following the Second World War. He left twenty-five years earlier and had made his fortune in the United States. Returning to his home town, he finds many of the same smells and sights that filled his youth, but he also finds a town and its inhabitants that have been deeply changed by war and by the passage of time. It was one of two Pavese novels (the other being Dialoghi con Leucò) to be adapted by Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub as part of their 1979 film From the Clouds to the Resistance. (en)
