- The Donays est un groupe américain de R&B des années 1960 originaire de Détroit originellement composé de Janice Guinn, sa sœur Armie, Yvonne Singleton, Michelle Ray et Mary (dont le nom est aujourd'hui oublié). En 1962, après le départ de cette dernière, elles sortent l'enregistrement original de la chanson Devil in His Heart, couplé à Bad Boy sur la face B. Une troisième chanson est enregistrée, You Always Talk About Tomorrow, mais le groupe se dissous après la parution de cet unique 45-tours. Le disque est découvert par George Harrison dans les présentoirs du magasin de son gérant et la chanson est enregistrée par les Beatles en 1963 sous le titre Devil in Her Heart. Yvonne Singleton, la chanteuse principale sur les enregistrements, prend le nom Yvonne Vernee et continue sa carrière à la suite de la séparation du groupe. Elle enregistre trois singles pour plus tard se joindre au groupe The Elgins dans les années 1970. (fr)
- The Donays were a 1960s R&B girl-group out of Hamtramck, Michigan. In 1961 the group recorded Richard P. Drapkin (aka Ricky Dee) song "Devil in His Heart" for Detroit's Correc-tone Records. Possibly produced in Detroit by Richard "Popcorn" Wylie, it and "Bad Boy" may be the only Donays recordings. In August, 1962 the recording was released as the B-side of "Bad Boy" on larger New York label Brent. The record was somehow discovered (perhaps by George Harrison, who sings the lead vocal) and recorded by the Beatles in 1963, retitled as "Devil in Her Heart". The lead singer of The Donays was Yvonne Vernee Allen. A decade later, Motown group The Elgins (which broke up in 1967) reunited to tour Britain in 1971 after it enjoyed two unexpected UK Top 20 hits. Yvonne, previously a session vocalist, took the place of former lead vocalist Saundra Mallett Edwards. The reunion sputtered. Yvonne continued singing into the 1990s, working for Ian Levine's Motor City label. (en)
