Již v roce 1948 nahrávala se saxofonistou , s nímž spolupracovala i v následujících letech. Během své kariéry spolupracovala s mnoha dalšími hudebníky, mezi něž patří například Yusef Lateef, Terry Gibbs, Clark Terry a Dorothy Ashby. V roce 1955 nahrála vlastní album pro vydavatelství . (cs)

- Terry Jean Pollard (Detroit, 15 de agosto de 1931; New York, 16 de diciembre de 2009) fue una pianista y vibrafonista de jazz que fue descrita como "una artista excepcional inexplicablemente infravalorada." Terry Pollard comenzó su carrera profesional en Detroit a la edad de 16 años grabando con Billy Mitchell en 1948. También colaboró con Johnny Hill (1948-1949) y el Emmitt Slay Trio (1950-1952), justamente colaborando con Mitchell en el Bakers Keyboard Lounge es descubieerta por el vibrafonista Terry Gibbs, quien asombrado por la técnica de Terry le preguntó para ser parte de su grupo en su gira por Norteamérica, ella aceptó y fue componente del cuarteto de 1953 a 1960 tocando el piano y como segunda vibrafonista, apareciendo con el grupo en el famoso Tonight Show de la televisión americana NBC presentado entonces por Steve Allen y grabando un total de cinco álbumes. En 1956 Downbeat Magazine le concede el New Artist Award y la apoda como la reina del vibráfono, En este periodo toca con artistas como John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington, Duke Ellington y Ella Fitzgerald. En 1960 cansada de sufrir el racismo de la sociedad decide volver a Detroit y formar una familia, trabajando por el día y tocando solo localmente con su trío y actuando con artistas como Bert Myrick, Earl Klugh, Diana Ross y el trío femenino de éxito The Supremes. En 1979 un ataque le dejó parcialmente paralítica lo que le impidió vover a tocar y falleció en 2009 por insuficiencia renal. Ella fue incluida en el Michigan Jazz Hall of Fame. (es)

She has been described as a "major player who was inexplicably overlooked." Pollard began her career by collaborating with other Detroit musicians, such as Billy Mitchell (and Elvin Jones, in the house band at the Blue Bird Inn), Johnny Hill, and the Emmitt Slay Trio. She was discovered by Terry Gibbs and toured with him in the early 1950s, playing piano and vibraphone. They recorded several albums, including Terry Gibbs Quartet - Featuring Terry Pollard. Pollard appeared with Gibbs on an episode of The Tonight Show hosted by Steve Allen. Her collaborations with Gibbs from 1953 to 1957 marked the height of her career. Pollard also performed with John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington, Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. Pollard recorded a self-titled solo album for Bethlehem Records in 1955 and won DownBeat magazine's New Artist award in 1956. Pollard retired from her full-time music career shortly thereafter in order to raise a family, but she continued to play locally in Detroit and performed with artists including Diana Ross and the Supremes. She was inducted into the Michigan Jazz Hall of Fame. Her contributions to the mid-century Detroit jazz scene were recognized in the book Before Motown: A History of Jazz in Detroit 1920-1960, by Lars Bjorn and Jim Gallert. (en)
