- Tap O' Noth és un castro situat a la localitat escocesa de Rhynie al comtat d'Aberdeenshire a uns 22 quilòmetres al nord-oest d'Alford. És el segon castro situat a major altitud d'Escòcia (563 m.), comprèn una àrea aproximada de 21 hectàrees envoltades d'un mur perimetral de pedra. En el jaciment s'han localitzat diverses restes de cases de planta circular encara que les estructures més excel·lents són els murs que delimiten l'espai interior. Aquests murs es troben a diverses zones vitrificats, és a dir, les seves roques han estat fusionades per l'acció d'altes temperatures en una tècnica constructiva parcialment desconeguda que buscava augmentar la solidesa de la construcció. Les excavacions realitzades a l'interior del castro han ofert diversos utensilis de notable interès, un d'ells, un destral de pedra datada entre el 2.000 i el 800 aC i una altra un anell de bronze amb decoració datat entre els segles iii a I aC. pertanyent probablement a un carro de combat. - Tap o’ Noth ist ein Hillfort auf dem Hill of Noth, westlich von Rhynie in Aberdeenshire in Schottland. Auf der Spitze des 563 Meter hohen Hügels gelegen, ist dieses Fort nicht nur eines der höchsten, sondern auch eines der ältesten in Schottland. Es besteht aus zwei Mauerringen, einer Außenmauer, die ungefähr 21 Hektar einschließt, und einer massiven inneren Mauer, die auf der Kuppe des Hügels eine rechteckige Zitadelle von 105 Meter × 40 Meter bildet. Die innere Wand wurde mit einem Gerüst aus Holzfachwerk gebaut, das durch einen Brand vernichtet wurde. Die wissenschaftliche Datierung der weist darauf hin, dass das Feuer am Anfang des 2. Jahrtausends v. Chr. die Bauwerke zerstörte. Es wird als Teil einer Gruppe eingestuft zu der auch Craig Phadrig, Dunnideer, der und Knock Farril gehören. Die Ausgrabung Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts offenbarte eine acht Meter breite Mauer, die bis zu einer Höhe von 3,5 Meter erhalten war. Innerhalb der äußeren Umwallung liegen mehr als 100 Hausgrundrisse. Am Südende der Zitadelle lag eine große Zisterne. Trotz seiner Lage war dieses Fort zu einer Zeit, als das Klima warm und trocken war, das Domizil einer großen Stammesgruppe oder eines Königreiches der Pikten, auf das die Gräber von Rhynie verweisen. Es el segundo castro situado a mayor altitud de Escocia (563 m.), comprende un área aproximada de 21 hectáreas rodeadas de un muro perimetral de piedra. En el yacimiento se han localizado varios restos de casas de planta circular aunque las estructuras más sobresalientes son los muros que delimitan el espacio interior. Estos muros se encuentran en varias zonas vitrificados, esto es sus rocas han sido fusionadas por la acción de altas temperaturas en una técnica constructiva parcialmente desconocida que buscaba aumentar la solidez de la construcción. Las excavaciones realizadas en el interior del castro han deparado varios utensilios de notable interés, uno de ellos, un hacha de piedra datada entre el 2000 y el 800 a. C. y otra un anillo de bronce con decoración datado entre el siglo III y el siglo I a. C. perteneciente probablemente a un carro de combate. (es)
- The Tap o' Noth is a hill and fort, 8 miles south of Huntly in Aberdeenshire, Scotland at grid reference NJ485293. It is the second highest fort in Scotland and its main feature is its well-preserved vitrified wall which encloses an area of approximately 100 m by 30 m, 0.3 hectares. Archaeological finds from the site include a stone axe head dated to between c. 2000 BC– c.800 BC, and a decorated bronze rein-ring dated to the 1st–3rd century AD. The site has been designated a scheduled ancient monument. The vitrified fort is the centre of a settlement within another rampart which encloses a much larger area of some 7 hectares. This outer rampart was constructed in the fifth to sixth centuries AD; large scale settlement within the area may date back as far as the third century AD, contemporary with the Pictish culture. Drone photographs and lidar surveys suggest that there may have been as many as 800 huts, many in groups with a larger hut at the centre of the group. It has been described as the largest known settlement in early-Medieval (post-Roman) Britain. In the nearby valley, the Pictish image of Rhynie Man on a standing stone has been found on Barflat farm. A post-Roman settlement has been discovered in the valley, with evidence for the consumption of wine from the Mediterranean, the use of glass vessels from western France, and intensive metalwork production. This is interpreted as signs of high social status, possibly with royal connections. (en)
