- TRSDOS (which stands for the Tandy Radio Shack Disk Operating System) is the operating system for the Tandy TRS-80 line of eight-bit Zilog Z80 microcomputers that were sold through Radio Shack from 1977 through 1991. Tandy's manuals recommended that it be pronounced triss-doss. TRSDOS should not be confused with Tandy DOS, a version of MS-DOS licensed from Microsoft for Tandy's x86 line of personal computers (PCs). With the original TRS-80 Model I of 1977, TRSDOS was primarily a way of extending the MBASIC (BASIC in ROM) with additional I/O (input/output) commands that worked with disk files rather than the cassette tapes that were used by non-disk Model I systems. Later disk-equipped Model III computers used a completely different version of TRSDOS by Radio Shack which culminated in 1981 with TRSDOS Version 1.3. From 1983 disk-equipped TRS-80 Model 4 computers used TRSDOS Version 6, which was a development of Model III LDOS by Logical Systems, Inc. This last was updated in 1987 and released as LS-DOS 6.3. Completely unrelated was a version of TRSDOS by Radio Shack for its TRS-80 Model II professional computer from 1979, also based on the Z80 and equipped with 8-inch disk drives. The later machines in this line, the Models 12, 16 and 6000, used the Z80 as an alternate CPU to its main Motorola 68000 chip and could run this version of TRSDOS for backwards compatibility with older Z80 applications software. - Il TRSDOS (sigla di Tandy Radio Shack Disk Operating System) era un sistema operativo per dischi offerto per la linea di home computer TRS-80 prodotti da Tandy Corporation e venduti da Radio Shack fra la fine degli anni settanta e la prima metà degli anni ottanta. Il TRSDOS era composto da un'interfaccia a riga di comando e di un DISK BASIC, un'estensione del BASIC integrato nella ROM del computer che serviva per gestire le unità a dischi esterne, dato che il BASIC supportava solo i lettori di nastri magnetici. Queste unità potevano essere collegate al computer mediante una Expansion Interface, un'interfaccia di espansione che integrava anche un controller Western Digital 1771. I floppy disk gestibili dal 1771 erano da 5,25" a singola densità, ossia con 89 kB di capacità (successivamente a doppia densità, 160 kB). Nonostante il TRSDOS fosse offerto da Radio Shack insieme all'interfaccia di espansione, i bug presenti nelle prime versioni convinsero molti utenti ad adottare altri DOS di natura commerciale come il NEWDOS/80, l'LS-DOS ed il VTOS, quest'ultimo commercializzato dallo stesso creatore del TRSDOS, Randy Cook. TRSDOS는 마이크로소프트로부터 라이선스를 받은 MS-DOS의 한 버전이면서 탠디의 x86 계열의 개인용 컴퓨터용인 탠디 도스(Tandy DOS)와는 구별된다. 1977년 오리지널 TRS-80 모델 I과 함께 TRSDOS는 비(非)디스크 모델 I 시스템에 사용된, 카세트 테이프가 아닌 디스크 파일과 함께 동작하였던 추가 입출력 명령을 포함, MBASIC(ROM의 베이직)을 확장하는 주된 방법이었다. 나중에 디스크 장착형 컴퓨터가 라디오셱에 의해 완전히 다른 버전의 TRSDOS를 사용하였다.
