- Der SHARP PC-1210 der Firma Sharp war der erste in Deutschland erhältliche BASIC-programmierbare Taschencomputer. Zur Markteinführung 1980 war der Rechner durch den niedrigen Einstiegspreis (ab ca. 330 DM) und die gute Verfügbarkeit (die Geräte konnten z. B. im Versandhandel bei Quelle bestellt werden) auch eine preisgünstige Alternative für Computereinsteiger. Unmittelbar nach dessen Einführung erschien das bis auf den größeren Arbeitsspeicher (1,9 KB) identische Schwestermodell SHARP PC-1211. Ein zum SHARP PC-1211 baugleiches Gerät wurde von der Firma Tandy/RadioShack unter der Bezeichnung Tandy TRS-80 Pocket Computer vermarktet. Diese Rechner waren bis auf ein weißes Display, schwarzen (anstatt braunen) Kunststoffteilen sowie einem anderen Typenschild oben rechts neben dem Display identisch mit den SHARP-Modellen. (de)
- Le Sharp PC-1211 est un modèle d'ordinateur de poche, aussi commercialisé sous le nom de Tandy TRS-80 PC en juillet 1980. Premier ordinateur de poche du marché, il est l'équivalent portable du Sinclair ZX81 avec une capacité d'affichage plus restreinte et sans possibilité d'extension de mémoire. Ses deux manuels, qui enseignent de façon très pédagogique les notions de programmation en BASIC, firent son succès, malgré ses piètres performances, son BASIC incomplet et son processeur 4 bits ne permettant que 256 commandes. Il était considéré comme la super calculatrice programmable pour ingénieur, scientifique, banquier et étudiant. Le PC-1211 peut se connecter sur son périphérique deux en un, à la fois imprimante et interface pour cassette mémoire via une prise 9 broches, dont l'autonomie était d'environ d'une heure sur fonction imprimante et de quatre à six heures pour une utilisation en interface cassette. La connexion à un magnétophone à cassette se fait par un faisceau de trois câbles : un Jack 3,5 mm mono pour l'enregistrement de données, un second pour la lecture de données et un dernier câble en Jack 2,5 mm mono pour le contrôle des fonctions pause, lecture et enregistrement.
