Dabei werden die Ausgaben der Programme meist direkt in den Hintergrund eingebettet und stören so nicht die Übersicht über die normalen Programme. Die Nutzung von SuperKaramba beschränkt sich zwar nicht auf Oberflächen von KDE, doch sind gewisse Bibliotheken, die der Desktop mit sich bringt, erforderlich. Seit KDE 3.5 wird SuperKaramba bereits mitgeliefert, ist also offizieller Teil des Desktops.In KDE SC 4 stellt die neue Oberfläche Plasma ähnliche Möglichkeiten wie SuperKaramba in Bezug auf die Gestaltung des Desktops bereit. Trotzdem wird SuperKaramba weiterentwickelt. So wurde es bereits nach KDE SC 4 portiert und erlaubt die Einbettung von SuperKaramba-Widgets in Plasma. The desktop widgets are usually embedded directly into the background and do not disturb the normal view of the desktop. The use of SuperKaramba is not limited to KDE, but certain libraries from KDE are required. SuperKaramba had been included in KDE since version 3.5. SuperKaramba is similar to gDesklets for GNOME. The name derives from Portuguese and Spanish super caramba, meaning approximately "super wow" or "super cool" (caramba itself being a euphemism for carallo). Together, Kicker, KDesktop and SuperKaramba build the graphical shell of the K Desktop Environment 3. In KDE Software Compilation 4, Kicker, KDesktop, and SuperKaramba were replaced by KDE Plasma 4. The graphical shells KDE Plasma 4 and KDE Plasma 5 being widget engines of their own, SuperKaramba is no longer necessary and e.g. "Kicker" was re-implemented as such a desktop widget. (en)

- SuperKaramba era una utility per il desktop, sviluppata da KDE che, una volta lanciata, permetteva di scaricare e installare una serie di programmini (detti applet) che abbelliscono il desktop, anche grazie all'utilizzo di trasparenze, e che al tempo stesso offrivano varie funzionalità (alcune delle quali a meri scopi estetici) come ad esempio quelle riguardanti l'utilizzo della CPU o della RAM. Come tutte le applicazioni, anche queste occupano memoria, e quindi ne viene consigliato un utilizzo proporzionato alle caratteristiche del sistema. Il programma gira in background agganciato alla finestra del desktop, in questo modo non disturba la normale vista delle altre applicazioni né del desktop stesso. Dalla versione 3.5 di KDE, SuperKaramba è stato integrato nelle release dell'ambiente destkop, parte della suite . Il software poteva funzionare anche al di fuori del desktop Plasma (precedentemente KDE) avendo installato le relative librerie per farlo funzionare. Il programma non è più sviluppato ed è stato rimosso dai rilasci di KDE Applications a partire dalla versione 15.12.
