- ( 비슷한 이름의 순천향대학교에 관해서는 해당 문서를 참조하십시오.) 순천대학교(順天大學校, Sunchon National University)는 대한민국의 전라남도 순천시에 위치한 국립대학이다. 약칭은 SCNU이다. 1935년에 우석 김종익에 의해 설립된 순천공립농업학교를 기원으로하여 1991년 국립 종합 대학인 '국립 순천대학교'로 승격되었다. 1946년에는 순천농림중학교로, 1951년에는 순천농림고등학교로, 이어서 1965년에는 5년제 순천농림고등전문학교로 개편되었다. 1972년 국립으로 이관되었다가 이듬해 2년제 순천농림전문학교로 개편되었다. 1979년 순천농림전문대학을 거쳐, 1982년 농학과 등 10개 학과를 개설하면서 4년제 순천대학으로 개편되었다. 1987년 석사과정의 대학원이 설치되었다. 1991년 농학부, 교육학부, 인문사회과학부, 공학부, 자연과학부 등 5개 단과대학을 갖춘 종합대학으로 승격되었다. 대학 본부는 순천시에 위치하고 있으며, 6개 단과대학과 5개 대학원으로 구성되어 매곡동과 삼산동 등지에 단과대학이 있다. 6개의 단과 대학과 64학과(부), 일반대학원 석사과정 4계열 55학과(부), 일반대학원 박사과정 3계열 43학과(부)으로 구성되어있다. 농업학교가 모체였던만큼 농업학과, 조경학과, 원예학과, 식물자원학과, 동물자원학과, 한약자원학과와 더불어 기초과학관련 학과가 상당히 큰 비중을 차지하고 있으며, 전국적으로 제대로 된 농업교육과를 가지고 있는 유일한 학교이며 두 명의 총장(허상만, 임상규)이 농림부 장관을 지냈을 만큼 농업에 관련이 깊다. 또한 사진예술학과, 만화애니메이션학과, 영상디자인학과가 있는 유일한 국립대이며 호남권의 산학협력중심대학 역할을 담당하고 있다. 2008년에는 세계연구중심대학 대형 과제에 지방 국립대로는 유일하게 선정되기도 하였다.
