- Die SMI-S (Storage Management Initiative - Specification) gilt allgemein als Standard-Basis für zukünftige Management-Umgebungen bei Storage Area Networks. Heterogene Speicher-Infrastrukturen, in denen Massenspeicher-Lösungen unterschiedlicher Anbieter zum Einsatz kommen, sollen sich durch den gemeinsamen, offenen Kompatibilitätsstandard einfacher verwalten lassen. Inzwischen wurde Version 1.0.2 der Spezifikation in einem Schnellverfahren dem International Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) vorgelegt. Im Jahr 2008 wurde die Version 1.1 als ANSI INCITS 388-2008 beim ANSI standardisiert. Urheber ist der Branchenverband SNIA (Storage Networking Industry Association). (de)

C'est une norme ANSI développée et maintenue par l'association Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA). SMI est basée sur les standards Common Information Model et Web-Based Enterprise Management définis par Distributed Management Task Force. - The Storage Management Initiative Specification, commonly called SMI-S, is a computer data storage management standard developed and maintained by the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA). It has also been ratified as an ISO standard. SMI-S is based upon the Common Information Model and the Web-Based Enterprise Management standards defined by the Distributed Management Task Force, which define management functionality via HTTP. The most recent approved version of SMI-S is available on the SNIA website. The main objective of SMI-S is to enable broad interoperable management of heterogeneous storage vendor systems. The current version is SMI-S 1.8.0 Rev 5. Over 1,350 storage products are certified as conformant to SMI-S. (en)
