- Ο Σώστρατος ήταν ήρωας της ελληνικής μυθολογίας, φίλος του Ηρακλή. Ήταν Αχαιός από την αρχαία πόλη Δύμη. Όπως μας αναφέρει ο Παυσανίας όταν πέρασε από την Δύμη , στην άκρη της δημοσίας οδού υπήρχε ο τάφος του Σώστρατου τον οποίο είχε φτιάξει ο ίδιος ο Ηρακλής για να τιμήσει τον φίλο του. Στον τάφο του υπήρχε στήλη με την μορφή του Ηρακλή στην οποία οι Δυμαίοι πρόσφεραν θυσίες. Σύγχρονοι συγγραφείς και αρχαιολόγοι τον ταυτίζουν με τον Πολύστρατο, ήρωα της Δύμης που είχε βοηθήσει τον Ηρακλή στον πόλεμο κατά του Ηλείου βασιλιά Αυγεία και είχε σκοτωθεί εκεί. Σε αρχαιολογικές ανασκαφές βρέθηκε στήλη ίδια με αυτή που περιγράφει ο Παυσανίας ότι υπήρχε στον τάφο του Σώστρατου αλλά με το όνομα Πολύστρατος. (el)
- Sostratus (Ancient Greek: Σώστρατος) is mentioned in Pausanias' Description of Greece as a Greek mythological hero, reputedly beloved of Heracles. According to Pausanias in his description of Dyme, he was from that ancient Achaean city and held in reverence by its inhabitants. He writes that on the side of a public road there was tomb of Sostratus, according to legend raised by Hercules in honour of his friend. Atop the mound was a slab with figure of Hercules in relief, where the Dymeans offered sacrifices. Modern researchers and archaeology identified him with Polystratus, a hero of Dyme who assisted Heracles in the war against the Elean king Augeas and was killed there. Archaeological excavations uncovered a pillar identical to that described by Pausanias but with the name Polystratus on it. (en)
