- Sciritis (Σκιρῖτις) foren unes muntanyes del nord de Lacònia, entre l'alt Eurotes a l'oest i l'Oenos a l'est, i formant al nord el límit entre Lacònia i Arcàdia. El seu nom volia dir "rugós" i probablement era referit a la característica de les muntanyes. Al nord tenia el territori de Menàlia, i a l'oest el territori de Parrhàsia. Les muntanyes pertanyien a Esparta però anteriorment, vers el segle vii aC, eren d'Arcàdia i els foren conquerides pels lacedemonis, essent els seus habitants convertits en periecs (perioeci). El contingent d'aquest perioeci, en nombre de 600, ocupava el costat esquerre de l'exèrcit espartà i sovint eren posats en lloc de perill o bé com a reserva al costat del rei. Vers el 368 aC es van revoltar contra Esparta i el país fou assolat pels espartans. Les ciutats de la regió eren Sciros i Èon i en temps històrics només consta la segona. (ca)
- Skiritis nebo Sciritis (starořecky: ἡ Σκιρῖτις) byla drsná a neúrodná hornatá krajina na severu starověké Lakónie mezi řekou Evrotas na západě a řekou na východě. Rozprostírá se severně od nejvyššího hřebene hor, které tvořily přirozenou hranicí mezi Lakónií a Arkádií. Název (σκίρον, σκεῖρον, σκληρόν) měl pravděpodobně vyjádřit divokou a drsnou povahu této země. Na severu pak navazovalo území a na západě území . Původně byla součástí Arkádie, ale v rané fázi si ji podmanil Lakedaimón. Svobodní občané, skiriti (starořečtina: Σκιρῖται), byli Sparťany podrobeni a získali status perioiků. Podle Xenofóna byli podrobeni Spartě ještě před dobou . Stalo se tak kvůli strategickému významu pro Spartu – cesta na sever vede přes Skiritis. Jedinými městy v krajině byly podle všeho Scirus a , které Xenofón nazval Ium. To je jediné město v krajině, zmíněné v historických dobách. Scirus bylo možná totožné s městem Scirtonium (Σκιρτώνιον) v oblasti Aegytis.Jejich poloha není známa. Oeum nebo Oion (starořecky: Οἰόν nebo Οἶον), také známé jako Ium nebo Ion (Ἰόν), bylo ve starověké Lakónii hlavním městem krajiny Sciritis. Ovládalo průsmyk, kterým vedla silnice z Tegei do Sparty. Podle („Stephanos von Byzanz“) byli Skiriti arkádského původu. V Xenofónově měli významnou roli. Jako jediní mohli jít na bojišti před králem a vykonávat tam průzkumnou a strážní službu . Podle Thukydida, který v knize V (67 a 68) popisuje strukturu spartské armády a bitvu u Mantinei, bojovali v počtu 600 muřů na ohroženém levém křídle falangy. V knize IV, Část 2 „Kyropädie“ (výchova Kýra „Erziehung des Kyros“) je Xenofón srovnává s hyrkánskou jízdou, kterou nešetřili ani v nebezpečných situacích ani v obtížných podnicích. Podobně i Lakedaimóni nasazovali své Skirity. Při první invazi Thébanů do Lakónie kolem roku 368 před Kristem se Skiriti spolu s perioiky z a proti Spartě vzbouřili, v důsledku čehož byla jejich země následně Lakedaimony zpustošena. (cs)
- Sciritis or Skiritis (Ancient Greek: ἡ Σκιρῖτις) was a rugged and barren mountainous district in the north of ancient Laconia, between the upper Eurotas on the west and the Oenus on the east, and extending north of the highest ridge of the mountains, which were the natural boundary between Laconia and Arcadia. The name probably expressed the wild and rugged nature of the country, for the word signified hard and rugged (σκίρον, σκεῖρον, σκληρόν, Hesych). It was bounded by on the north, and by Parrhasia on the west, and was originally part of Arcadia, but was conquered at an early period, and its inhabitants reduced to the condition of Lacedaemonian Perioeci. According to Xenophon they were subjected to Sparta even before the time of Lycurgus. They were distinguished above all the other Perioeci for their bravery; and their contingent, called the Σκιρίτης λόχος, 600 in number, usually occupied the extreme left of the Lacedaemonian wing. They were frequently placed in the post of danger, and sometimes remained with the king as a body of reserve. On the first invasion of Laconia by the Thebans the Sciritae, together with the Perioeci of Caryae and Sellasia, revolted from Sparta, in consequence of which their country was subsequently ravaged by the Lacedaemonians. The only towns in the Sciritis appear to have been Scirus and Oeum called Ium by Xenophon. The latter is the only place in the district mentioned in historical times. Scirus may perhaps have been the same as Scirtonium (Σκιρτώνιον), in the district of Aegytis. The road from Sparta to Tegea led through the Sciritis. (en)
