- SS Gothic byl zaoceánský parník společnosti White Star Line vybudovaný roku 1893 v loděnicích Harland & Wolff v Belfastu. Měl tonáž 7 755 BRT, jeden komín, čtyři stěžně, tři paluby, byl vybaven elektrickým osvětlením a chlazením. Měl 2 šrouby poháněné trojexpanzními parními motory s 6 cylindry o výkonu 700 koní, se kterými dosahoval rychlosti 14 uzlů. Spuštěn na vodu byl 28. června 1893. Sloužil na linkách na Nový Zéland. Měl kajuty pro 104 pasažérů v první a 114 ve třetí třídě. Na svou první plavbu z Londýna přes Kapské Město do Wellingtonu vyplul 28. prosince 1893. V červnu 1906 shořela na jeho palubě vlna a loď byla poškozena. Musel nouzově zakotvit v Plymouthu. Poté byl přestavěn na emigrantskou loď s čtyřlůžkovými kajutami pro 1800 cestujících ve třetí třídě. Následně ho roku 1908 odkoupila , převedla ho pod belgickou vlajku a přejmenovala na Gothland. Na svou první plavbu z Antverp do New Yorku vyplul 11. července 1908. Mezi lety 1911-13 sloužil znovu pod jménem Gothic a pod anglickou vlajkou na linkách do Nového Zélandu pro White Star Line. 23. dubna 1913 opět sloužil pro Red Star Line. 23. června 1914 najel na útesy Gunnar Rocks, ale podařilo se ho po třech dnech vyprostit a opravit v Southamptonu. Na svou poslední plavbu z Antverp do Philadelphie vyplul v březnu 1925. V listopadu byl prodán a následující rok sešrotován. (cs)

- Le Gothic est un paquebot-mixte de la White Star Line mis en service en 1893. Construit par les chantiers Harland & Wolff de Belfast et destiné à l'origine à la ligne de New York, il est finalement mis en service à destination de la Nouvelle-Zélande, et devient le plus grand et le plus rapide des navires mis en service sur cette ligne jusqu'alors. Conçu avant tout pour transporter de grandes quantités de marchandises réfrigérées, il peut également transporter des passagers, répartis en deux classes, en leur offrant un confort supérieur aux autres navires de la ligne à l'époque. Le navire connaît donc un début de carrière très prometteur, battant à ses débuts plusieurs records de vitesse. Durant la Seconde Guerre des Boers, il transporte durant ses traversées des troupes qu'il rapatrie en Nouvelle-Zélande depuis l'Afrique du Sud. Au début du XXe siècle, il commence cependant à subir la concurrence des navires plus récents de la classe Athenic. Son sort au service de la White Star est scellé le 3 juin 1906, lorsque sa cargaison prend feu. L'incendie, qui dure plusieurs jours, endommage fortement le navire qui doit être refondu. Dès 1907, après quelques derniers voyages pour la Nouvelle-Zélande, il est cédé à une compagnie sœur, la Red Star Line. Renommé Gothland et portant pavillon belge, il est désormais affecté à la ligne de l'Atlantique Nord au départ d'Anvers. En 1911, cependant, il reprend son nom et son pavillon d'origine pour servir durant deux ans la White Star à destination de l'Australie où il transporte de nombreux immigrants. Il est ensuite rendu à la Red Star, en 1913, et reprend son nom de Gothland. En 1914, il s'échoue et requiert six mois de réparations, après quoi son service est troublé par l'occupation allemande de la Belgique. - SS Gothic was an ocean liner, built in 1893 at the Harland and Wolff Shipyards for the White Star Line. She was 490 ft long and 53 ft wide and 7755 gross registered tons. For much of her career she was transferred back and forth between White Star and the Red Star Line, both of which were subsidiaries of the International Mercantile Marine. Initially she travelled the London to New Zealand route. Gothic caught fire in 1906, and was subsequently repaired. Following this, she was converted into an immigrant ship and chartered to the Red Star Line as SS Gothland. This was short-lived, as in 1911, she was transferred back to White Star with her name returned to Gothic. Two years later, she once again served the Red Star Line as Gothland. She now ran the Antwerp to New York run. In May 1921 she reverted yet again to White Star but kept the name Gothland. In 1924 she ran aground. After examination it was decided that the ship was no longer economically viable and she was scrapped in 1925. (en)
