- SM UB 2 war ein deutsches U-Boot der UB-I-Klasse der Kaiserlichen Marine. Das Boot versenkte im Ersten Weltkrieg elf Schiffe und wurde 1920 in Deutschland abgewrackt. Im Oktober 1914 erhielt die Germaniawerft den Auftrag für UB 2 und begann im November mit dem Bau. Mit kaum mehr als 28 m Länge verdrängte UB 2 127 t im aufgetauchten und 142 t im getauchten Zustand. Es war mit zwei Bugtorpedorohren, zwei Torpedos und einem an Deck montierten Maschinengewehr bewaffnet. Stapellauf und Indienststellung als SM UB 2 erfolgten im Februar 1915. UB 2 war das einzige UB-I-Boot, dessen Transport nach Antwerpen nicht per Bahn erfolgte, sondern das auf dem Seeweg zur U-Flottille Flandern in Zeebrügge überführt wurde. Unter dem Kommando von Werner Fürbringer versenkte es elf britische Schiffe mit insgesamt 1374 BRT. UB 2 verlegte im März 1916 zur U-Flottille Kurland und im Dezember desselben Jahres zur U-Schule. Da es am Ende des Krieges nicht mehr seetüchtig war, konnte es nicht mit dem Rest der deutschen U-Boot-Flotte in Harwich an die Briten übergeben werden. - SM UB-2 was a German Type UB I submarine or U-boat in the German Imperial Navy (German: Kaiserliche Marine) during World War I. She sank eleven ships during her career and was broken up in Germany in 1920. UB-2 was ordered in October 1914 and was laid down at the Germaniawerft shipyard in Kiel in November. UB-2 was a little more than 28 metres (92 ft) in length and displaced between 127 and 142 tonnes (125 and 140 long tons), depending on whether surfaced or submerged. She carried two torpedoes for her two bow torpedo tubes and was also armed with a deck-mounted machine gun. She was launched and commissioned as SM UB-2 in February 1915. When UB-2 sailed to join the Flanders Flotilla in May 1915, she became the only member of her class to not be shipped by rail to Antwerp to join the unit. While in the flotilla, UB-2 sank eleven British ships of 1,374 gross register tons (GRT) under the command of Kptlt. Werner Fürbringer. The U-boat was assigned to the in March 1916 relegated to a training role from December that same year. At the end of the war, UB-2 was deemed unseaworthy and unable to surrender at Harwich with the rest of Germany's U-boat fleet. She remained in Germany where she was broken up by Stinnes in February 1920. (en)
