- Roberto Ampuero Espinoza (Valparaíso, 20 de febrero de 1953) es un escritor y político chileno, miembro de Evolución Política. En el ámbito literario, es conocido principalmente por sus novelas policíacas protagonizadas por el detective privado Cayetano Brulé. Fue ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Chile desde marzo de 2018 hasta junio de 2019. Se desempeñó como embajador de Chile en España, durante la administración de Sebastián Piñera. Ampuero —que hasta fines de 2011, cuando fue nombrado embajador en México, residía en Estados Unidos, donde era profesor en la Universidad de Iowa—, no se limita a la saga de Brulé y escribe también «novelas que abordan la pareja moderna» en las que «la mujer es profesional, moderna, emancipada, con voz y agenda propias, una mujer que desconcierta al hombre que se considera más moderno». Debido a la renuncia precipitada por motivos electorales de Luciano Cruz-Coke, Ampuero fue nombrado ministro presidente del Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes de Chile por Sebastián Piñera el 7 de junio de 2013, cargo en el que juró dos días después y que dejó en marzo de 2014, cuando asumió el nuevo gobierno de Michelle Bachelet. - Roberto Ampuero (born 20 February 1953 in Valparaíso, Chile) is a Chilean author, columnist, and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, a position he held from March 11, 2018 to June 13, 2019. His first novel ¿Quién mató a Kristián Kustermann? was published in 1993 and in it he introduced his private eye, Cayetano Brulé, winning the Revista del Libro prize of El Mercurio. Since then the detective has appeared in five novels. In addition he has published an autobiographical novel about his years in Cuba titled Nuestros Años Verde Olivo (1999) and the novels Los Amantes de Estocolmo (Book of the Year in Chile, 2003 and the bestseller of the year in Chile)) and Pasiones Griegas (chosen as the Best Spanish Novel in China, 2006). His novels have been published in Latin America and Spain, and have been translated into German, French, Italian, Chinese, Swedish, Portuguese, Greek, Croatian, and English. In Chile his works have sold more than 40 editions. Ampuero now resides in Iowa where he is a professor at the University of Iowa in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. He was a columnist of La Tercera and the New York Times Syndicate and since March 2009 has been working as a columnist for El Mercurio. Il suo primo romanzo, Chi ha ucciso Cristian Kustermann? (¿Quién mató a Cristián Kustermann?), fu pubblicato nel 1993 e vi fece la comparsa l'investigatore privato Cayetano Brulé, ottenendo il premio della Revista libros de El Mercurio. Da quel momento l'investigatore è apparso in altri cinque romanzi, l'ultimo dei quali è Il caso Neruda (El caso Neruda). Ha inoltre pubblicato nel 1999 un romanzo autobiografico sui suoi anni a Cuba intitolato I nostri anni verde oliva. Una storia cubana (Nuestros años verde olivo), e i romanzi Los amantes de Estocolmo (libro dell'anno in Cile nel 2003) e Pasiones griegas (eletto in Cina miglior racconto in spagnolo nel 2006). I suoi romanzi sono stati pubblicati in America Latina e Spagna, ed è stato tradotto in tedesco, francese, inglese, italiano, cinese, svedese, portoghese, greco e croato. In Cile le sue opere hanno realizzato oltre 40 edizioni. Ampuero ha vissuto in Iowa dove ha esercitato come professore nel dipartimento di spagnolo e portoghese dell'Università dell'Iowa.
