Robert Piloty (6 June 1924, in Munich – 21 January 2013) was a German computer scientist and former Professor of Communications Processing at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Technische Universität Darmstadt. He was one of the pioneers in the construction of program-controlled computer systems and the founding father of computer science courses in Germany. As a member of the advisory board and chairman of the commission for the introduction of computer science studies in Germany, he was significantly involved in the introduction and design of computer science studies throughout Germany. His efforts also led to the establishment of the first computer science course in Germany at TU Darmstadt.

Er gehörte zu den Pionieren auf dem Gebiet der Konstruktion von programmgesteuerten Rechenanlagen und war einer der Gründerväter der Informatikstudiengänge in Deutschland. Als Mitglied des Fachbeirates und Vorsitzender der Kommission für die Einführung des Informatikstudiums in Deutschland war er maßgeblich an der Einführung und Gestaltung des Informatikstudiums in ganz Deutschland beteiligt. 1964 als Professor der Elektrotechnik an die Technische Hochschule Darmstadt (heute: Technische Universität Darmstadt) berufen, war er auch dort wesentlich an der Entwicklung des Informatikstudiengangs beteiligt. Mit dem Umbenennen des vormals nach dem Chemiker Eduard Zintl benannten Gebäudes in „Robert-Piloty-Gebäude“ nach dem Abschluss dessen Renovierung im Jahr 2004 würdigte die TU Darmstadt seine Verdienste in Darmstadt und in ganz Deutschland. Als Mitglied der Generalversammlung und als Vizepräsident der International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) hatte Robert Piloty über viele Jahre die deutsche Informatik international vertreten.
