- Richard „Richie“ Kohler ist ein US-amerikanischer technischer Wracktaucher und Historiker für Schiffswracks, der seit 1980 Schiffswracks betaucht. Zusammen mit John Chatterton war Kohler einer der Co-Moderatoren der Fernsehserie Deep Sea Detectives auf dem History Channel. Er ist Berater der Film- und Fernsehindustrie für Schiffswrack- und Tauchprojekte. Kohlers lebenslange Passion ist das Betauchen berühmter Schiffswracks weltweit, unter anderem der Andrea Doria und zuletzt der Titanic. Vom russischen Forschungsschiff Keldysh hat Kohler mehrfach im Forschungs-U-Boot Mir den Liegeplatz des Wracks in 3786 m betaucht. Kohlers Projekt, U 869, ein deutsches U-Boot aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, das vor der Küste von New Jersey liegt, zu identifizieren, war das Thema mehrerer TV-Dokumentationen und des Bestsellers Shadow Divers von Robert Kurson, der in deutscher Übersetzung als Im Sog der Tiefe erschienen ist. Basierend auf dem Buch wird ein Film von 20th Century Fox mit Peter Weir als Regisseur und Produzent gedreht. Zurzeit ist Richie Kohler einer der Moderatoren der Fernsehserie Dive Portal Magazine. - Richie Kohler is an American technical wreck diver and shipwreck historian who has been diving and exploring shipwrecks since 1980. Together with John Chatterton, Kohler was one of the co-hosts of the television series Deep Sea Detectives on the History Channel and is also a consultant for the film and television industry on shipwreck and diving projects. Kohler has explored shipwrecks around the world, including the SS Andrea Doria and the RMS Titanic. Diving from the Russian research vessel Keldysh, Kohler made multiple dives to 3,786 meters (12,421 ft) in the MIR submersibles to explore the Titanic's wreck site. Kohler's work identifying a World War II German submarine, U-869, off the coast of New Jersey has been the subject of several television documentaries and a book by Robert Kurson, Shadow Divers. This book is being developed as a motion picture by 20th Century Fox, directed and produced by Peter Weir. (en)
