- Qalatga Darband (kurdisch für Burg am Gebirgspass) ist eine antike Stadt im irakischen Kurdistan mit Blick auf die Dukan-Talsperre im Gouvernement as-Sulaimaniyya. Das Gelände der Stätte umfasst mehr als 60 Hektar und liegt an der nordöstlichen Ecke des Stausees. Vor der Stauung des Sees in den 1950er Jahren lag Qalatga Darband auf einer Terrasse am kleinen Zab und somit strategisch günstig am Darband-i-Ranya-Pass, der die Ebene von Ranya im Westen mit der Ebene von Peschdar im Osten verbindet. - Qalatga Darband is an ancient city located in Iraqi Kurdistan, overlooking Lake Dukan in Sulaymaniyah Governorate. It has been dated to the Late Hellenistic period or to the transition of Hellinistic-Parthian period. The site was first discovered using satellite imagery declassified in the 1990s that had been taken as part of the Corona program in the 1960s. It was one of the sites to be surveyed in the region in 2013 by a French mission directed by Jessica Giraud. In 2016, the British Museum chose the site to excavate and train the Iraqi archaeologists on archaeology and sites protection, a program supported by the British government. (en)

J.-C. par Alexandre le Grand et dont l'emplacement avait été perdu jusqu'à aujourd'hui. La ville est située au sud-est de l'actuelle ville de Ranya, au bord du lac Dukan formé dans les années 1960. - Qalatga Darband è un'antica città fortezza scoperta nei pressi delle rive del lago di Dokan, nel Kurdistan iracheno. La città risale al periodo ellenistico, databile attorno al 331 a.C. La città fungeva da base d'appoggio per soldati e mercanti in transito tra gli odierni Iraq e Iran, lungo la strada percorsa da Alessandro Magno dopo avere sconfitto Dario III di Persia nella battaglia di Gaugamela. Nel 2016, il British Museum studiò e scelse con cura il luogo esatto di escavazione e diede inizio a un programma, supportato dal governo britannico, di scavi e di protezione dei beni archeologici in collaborazione con archeologi iracheni. Gli scavi dureranno fino al 2020.
