- The Progressive Reform Party (Afrikaans: Progressiewe Reformiste Party) was a South African party that was formed on 26 July 1975 by the fusion of the Reform Party led by Harry Schwarz and Progressive Party led by Colin Eglin. Harry Schwarz predicted that the merger would lead to a "new political dimension in South Africa". Colin Eglin was elected leader of the party While Harry Schwarz was made Chairman of the Federal Executive. In 1977, the United Party merged with another small party to form the New Republic Party. A number of United Party members left to form the Committee for a United Opposition, which then joined the Progressive Reform Party to form the Progressive Federal Party with Colin Eglin as its leader. Partisan d'une charte des droits, de réformes constitutionnelles vers une évolution fédérale de l'Afrique du Sud, d'une franchise électorale basée sur des critères d'instructions et des critères de revenus, du partage du pouvoir avec la population noire du pays et de l’abolition des lois de l'Apartheid, le parti progressiste réformiste soutient l'économie de marché, la propriété privée des moyens de production et le système capitaliste. Tant le parti progressiste que le parti réformiste ont été créés par des dissidents du parti uni. En 1977, le ralliement d'autres dissidents du parti uni au parti progressiste réformiste aboutit à la formation du parti progressiste fédéral. (fr)

De PRP ontstond op 26 juli 1976 na de fusie van de Progressive Party/Progressiewe Party van Colin Eglin en de van Harry Schwarz. Na de fusie werd Eglin gekozen tot partijleider en Schwartz werd gekozen tot voorzitter van de Uitvoerende Raad (d.i. partijvoorzitter). De partij telde 11 leden (7 van de PP en 4 van de RP) van de Volksraad. Op 5 september 1977 fuseerden de PRP en het Comité voor Verenigde Oppositie tot de Progressive Federal Party/Progressiewe Federale Party (Progressieve Federale Partij, PFP). (nl)
