- The Political Intelligence Service (Dutch: Politieke Inlichtingendienst, PID), was the main security agency for the Dutch East Indies from 1916 until its break-up in 1945. The Political Intelligence Service was certainly the most famous part of the colonial police. The PID had the reputation of being omnipresent and omniscient, at least with regard to the organizations and individuals who posed a threat to the peace and order. Obviously the work of that PID was largely a case that took place in the seclusion. Very little is known on its activities in publications and the archives and PID employees are no longer with us to provide information. (en)

Dinas Intelijen Politik pada tahun dua puluhan dan tiga puluhan abad yang lalu, pastinya merupakan bagian paling terkenal dari polisi kolonial. PID memiliki reputasi sebagai "ada di mana-mana" dan "serba tahu", setidaknya berkenaan dengan organisasi dan individu yang merupakan ancaman bagi kedamaian dan ketertiban. - De Politieke Inlichtingendienst (PID), was een geheime dienst en de belangrijkste veiligheidsdienst voor Nederlands-Indië vanaf 1916 tot aan het uiteenvallen in 1945. Het hoofdkwartier ervan was gevestigd in Batavia. De Politieke Inlichtingendienst was in de jaren twintig en dertig van de twintigste eeuw, zeker het bekendste onderdeel van de Nederlands-Indische politie. De PID had de reputatie alomtegenwoordig en alwetend te zijn, althans met betrekking tot de organisaties en individuen die een bedreiging vormden voor de vrede en orde. Het werk van die PID vond grotendeels plaats in beslotenheid. Er is heel weinig bekend over de activiteiten in publicaties en de archieven en er zijn geen ex-PID-medewerkers meer in leven die nog informatie kunnen verstrekken. (nl)
