- A Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells being an illustrated account of a study and exploration of the mountains in the English Lake District ist eine Serie von sieben Büchern des englischen Autors A. Wainwright, in denen die Berge (Fells) des Lake District im nordwestlichen England beschrieben werden. Die Bücher wurden über einen Zeitraum von 13 Jahren seit 1952 geschrieben und sind eine Reproduktion des mit zahlreichen Federzeichnungen illustrierten komplett handgeschriebenen Manuskripts. Seit den Erstveröffentlichungen in den Jahren 1955 bis 1966 wurden bisher mehr als zwei Millionen Exemplare verkauft. Bei den meisten Wanderern (Hillwalker) Englands gelten diese Bücher als das Standardwerk unter den Wanderführern über die Fells des Lake District. Die 214 in den sieben Bänden beschriebenen Fells werden allgemein als The Wainwrights bezeichnet und es ist eine beliebte Herausforderung, alle zu besteigen. - A Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells is a series of seven books by A. Wainwright, detailing the fells (the local word for hills and mountains) of the Lake District in northwest England. Written over a period of 13 years from 1952, they consist entirely of reproductions of Wainwright's manuscript, hand-produced in pen and ink with no typeset material. The series has been in print almost continuously since it was first published between 1955 and 1966, with more than 2 million copies sold. It is still regarded by many walkers as the definitive guide to the Lakeland mountains. The 214 fells described in the seven volumes have become known as the Wainwrights. As of 2013 the LDWA register of those who have climbed all the fells listed 674 names. The Wainwright Society maintains a "register of current Society members who have climbed all 214 fells". (en)
