- Filip d'Acarnània (en llatí Philippus, en grec Φίλιππος), nascut a Acarnània, va ser un amic i metge d'Alexandre el Gran. Hi ha una coneguda història explicada per diversos autors: quan Alexandre va patir un atac de febre l'any 333 aC a Cilícia per haver-se banyat a les aigües gelades del riu Cidnos, després d'haver suat molt, va cridar al seu metge. Parmenió va advertir al rei que Filip havia estat subornat per Darios III de Pèrsia per enverinar-lo, però el rei no el va creure i no va dubtar de la fidelitat del metge. Filip va donar un beuratge al rei i aquest, mentre el bevia, va donar la carta de denúncia al metge, mirant-se'l als ulls amb insistència. Com que el rei es va recuperar l'acusació va ser considerada falsa i Alexandre va mantenir la confiança en l'honestedat de Filip. (ca)

J.-C., Alexandre est victime d'une hydrocution après s'être baigné dans le Cydnos à Tarse. Il reçoit alors une lettre de Parménion qui lui annonce que Philippe, corrompu par l'or des Perses, veut l'empoisonner. Il donne cette lettre à Philippe, au moment où celui-ci lui présente un breuvage, et boit sans la moindre hésitation. Cette confiance n'est pas trompée : l'accusation est fausse et Alexandre guérit. - Philip of Acarnania (Greek: Φίλιππος) was friend and physician of Alexander the Great, of whom a well-known story is told by several ancient authors. He was the means of saving the king's life, when he had been seized with a severe attack of fever, brought on by bathing in the cold waters of the river Cydnus in Cilicia, after being violently heated, 333 BC. Parmenion sent to warn Alexander that Philip had been bribed by Darius III to poison him ; the king, however, would not believe the information, nor doubt the fidelity of his physician, but, while he drank off the draught prepared for him, he put into his hands the letter he had just received, fixing his eyes at the same time steadily on his countenance. A well-known modern picture represents this incident ; and the king's speedy recovery fully justified his confidence in the skill and honesty of his physician. Philip was still Alexander’s doctor at the siege of Gaza in 332 BC, as Curtius reports that he extracted an arrow from the king’s shoulder (QC 4.6.17-20) (en)
