- قرية كوم أشقاو هي إحدى القرى التابعة لمركز طما بمحافظة سوهاج في جمهورية مصر العربية. حسب إحصاءات سنة 2006، بلغ إجمالي السكان في كوم أشقاو 10705 نسمة، منهم 5521 رجل و 5184 امرأة، ومن أعلامها المخرج رضوان الكاشف. عرفت قديما باسم أفروديتوبوليس. ذكرها جوتييه في قاموسه أن هذه المدينة كانت عاصمة للمقاطعة العاشرة في صعيد مصر. اسمها المصري Tkou والقبطي Tschkoou ومنه اشتق الاسم العربي إشقاو. عُثر فيها على البرديات المعروفة ببرديات أفروديتو، تتضمن البرديات المكتشفة رسائل من قره بن شريك إلى باسيليوس صاحب أشقوه، ومجموعات أخرى من الرسائل بلغات يونانية وقبطية وعربية. - Η Περ Ουαντιέτ ήταν αρχαία κώμη της Αιγύπτου στην Άνω Αίγυπτο και την 10η νομή. Στην ελληνορωμαϊκή περίοδο ήταν γνωστή σαν Αφροδιτώ ή Αφροδιτόπολις. Ο αρχαιολογικός χώρος βρίσκεται στο σημερινό χωριό Κομ Ισκακάου. Σήμερα ταυτίζεται από πολλούς και με την ίδια τη Βουτώ που ήταν στη Κάτω Αίγυπτο. Στη κώμη λατρευόταν η Άθωρ και η τοπική θεά η οποία απεικονιζόταν με κεφάλι, δύο άλλες φορές, κόμπρας, είχε ναό που ήταν και μαντείο αλλά έδωσε και το όνομα της στη πόλη. Στη ελληνορωμαϊκή εποχή υπολογίζεται ότι είχε 15.000 περίπου κατοίκους ενώ βρέθηκαν δύο εργαστήρια αγγειοπλαστικής και ένα εργαστήριο για το ελαιόλαδο . - Per-Wadjit war eine altägyptische Stadt in Oberägypten im Wadjit-Gau, dem 10. oberägyptischen Gau. Es handelt sich um das moderne Kom Ischqau und wurde bei den Griechen als Aphrodito (Ἀφροδιτώ) bezeichnet. Der Ort ist in ägyptischen Quellen seit dem Neuen Reich belegt und war vor allem in griechisch-römischer Zeit zeitweise Hauptort des Gaues. Hier wurde Wadjit verehrt, die wiederum mit Hathor identifiziert wurde. Die antike Stadt liegt unter dem modernen Dorf. Zufallsfunde stammen vor allem aus byzantinischer Zeit, worunter sich zahlreiche Papyrusfunde befinden, darunter das Archiv des Dioskoros von Aphrodito. (de)
- Per-Wadjet (Ancient Greek: Ἀφροδίτης πόλις or Ἀφροδιτώ; Coptic: ϫⲕⲱⲟⲩ or ⲧϣⲕⲟⲟⲩ or ⲧⲕⲟⲟⲩ) was an Ancient Egyptian town in the 10th Upper Egyptian nome. The ancient town is identical with the modern village Kom Ishqau. Per-Wadjet is known from Egyptian sources since the New Kingdom. It was a cult place for Hathor, who was here identified with Wadjet. The Greeks identified Hathor with Aphrodite and called the town Aphroditopolis or Aphrodito. In Greek and Roman times the town was sometimes the nome capital. In Kom Ishqau were found the papyri of Dioscorus of Aphrodito, who lived there in the 6th century A.D. These papyri are an important source for life in Byzantine Egypt. A long-lost 2.200 year-old temple with words linked to Ptolemy IV Philopator was accidentally found during drilling work on a sewage project by the Egyptian archaeological mission in the village in early September 2019. Temple stones for installing the sewage pumps, limestone wall remnants and ground floor were also revealed during the excavation. Inscriptions described Hapi, the God of the Nile, presenting offerings of varied animal and birds in the walls of the temple. (en)

Essa cidade pode ser associada com a vila moderna de . Afroditópolis foi conhecida a partir de fontes egípcias do Reino Novo. Foi local de culto de Hator, que era aí identificada com Uto. Os gregos identificaram Hator com Afrodite e portanto batizaram a cidade em homenagem a deusa. No período grego e romano a cidade por vezes serviu como capital de seu nomo.
