- Pavel Klein (25. ledna 1652, Cheb – 30. srpna 1717, Filipíny), známý též pod jmény Paul Klein nebo Pablo Clain, byl český jezuitský misionář, lékárník a spisovatel, který se počátkem 18. století stal univerzitním rektorem na Filipínách. Patřil mezi významné osobnosti manilského života. Je také autorem vůbec první historické mapy Palau. (cs)

August 1717, Manila, Philippinen; am häufigsten bezeichnet als span: Pablo Clain, lat.: Paulus Klein, tschech.: Pavel Klein), war ein Jesuit, Missionar, Pharmazeut, Botaniker, Autor einer astronomischen Observation, Schriftsteller, Rektor des Colegio de Cavite, sowie Rektor des Colegio de San José und später Ordens-Provinzial der Philippinen. Klein ist bekannt als wichtige Persönlichkeit im Manila des 18. Jahrhunderts. Er verfasste ein standardisiertes Tagalog-Wörterbuch und war der erste Europäer, der den Inselstaat Palau beschrieb und die erste Karte zeichnete. Darüber hinaus verfasste er eine astronomische Observation zu einer Mondfinsternis in Manila, sowie einen Überblick über philippinische Heilpflanzen in Tagalog und in europäischen Sprachen und einige Rezepte für deren Anwendung. - Paul Klein (25 January 1652 in Cheb, Bohemia, now Czech Republic – 30 August 1717 in Manila, Philippines; often used in Spanish: Pablo Clain, Latin: Paulus Klein, Czech: Pavel Klein) was a Jesuit missionary, pharmacist, botanist, author of an astronomic observation, writer, rector of Colegio de Cavite as well as the rector of Colegio de San José and later Jesuit Provincial Superior in the Philippines, the highest ranking Jesuit official in the country. Klein is known as an important personality of life during the 18th-century Manila. Klein is known for writing a standardized Tagalog dictionary as well as the first person to describe Palau for the Europeans and to draw the historically first map of Palau, an act which practically equated to the discovery of Palau. He is also known to write the first astronomic observation from Manila of a moon eclipse and an overview of medicinal plants in local as well as European languages as well as recipes for their usage. Pharmacien, botaniste, et écrivain il fut également Supérieur Provincial des Jésuites des Philippines. Auteur d’un dictionnaire tagalog standardisé et de la première carte géographique des îles Palaos, ce qui le fit reconnaître (aux yeux des Européens) comme ayant ‘découvert’ les îles Palaos, il organisa également la première observation astronomique de Manille.
