- Le parthénolide est une lactone sesquiterpénique produite par la grande camomille (Tanacetum parthenium) en grande concentration dans ses fleurs et fruits. La grande camomille est une plante classique de la médecine non conventionnelle ou naturelle. En tablettes ou décoctions, elle soulagerait la migraine, préviendrait les caillots. Elle serait anti-inflammatoire et soulagerait arthrite, dysménorrhée et dyspepsie. Le parthénolide en serait le principe actif principal, dont le contenu est précisé par nombre de vendeurs de camomille. L'insolubilité dans l'eau en limite les indications et les effets et sans parler même de son intérêt potentiel en oncologie, justifierait les recherches actuelles. (fr)

It is found in highest concentration in the flowers and fruit. Parthenolide's molecular structure depiction is often incorrect regarding the stereochemistry of the epoxide, although X-ray single crystal structures are available. Lack of solubility in water and bioavailability limits the potential of parthenolide as a drug. (en)

- Партенолид — сесквитерпеновый лактон, содержащийся в растениях рода пиретрум (Pyrethrum). Наибольшая концентрация отмечена в цветках и плодах растения Tanacetum parthenium (Пижма девичья). Пиретрум издавна использовался в медицине, и партенолид является его основным активным веществом, обуславливающим противовоспалительные свойства. Партенолид, содержит кольцо альфа-метилен-гамма-лактона и эпоксид, который специфически взаимодействует с нуклеофильными участками биомолекул. Эти химические свойства, по-видимому, и объясняют его биологические свойства, такие как избирательная противоопухолевая активность, связанная с индукцией апоптоза в опухолевых клетках различного тканевого происхождения, способность вызывать оксидативный стресс и ингибировать активированный в злокачественных клетках путь NF-κB.Партенолид ингибирует NF-κB воздействуя на сигнальные пути IkB киназы и непосредственно модифицируя белок р65.
